A subwoofer to match Monitor 10s and CS350?

Hi Polkies,

Any suggestions for a good small to medium sized sub to go with my Monitor 10s and Cs350? This is for a second HT system and I'm thinking 10" to 12" for no more than $450. I was considering DIY, Polk ebay store (many options), used Velodyne, SVS, HSU, etc. Due to space issues (and if the boss has her way), I may also end up using my Monitor 5s as fronts or maybe some LS 70s (if I can find them). Are there any well regarded "sleeper" subs out there?
Thanks!

GWG

Yeah, I remember seeing that a while back but couldn't find it again. Thanks, that should definitely help with the Polk matches.

I'm EXTREMELY happy with the Polk DSWPRO 550wi 10" (wireless ready) sub that I use in a 5.1 setup with my Monitor 10Bs as fronts (Monitor 5jrs - surrounds; CS20 - center). Plenty enough power to bring the thunder for your movies, yet nice and tight with a perfect blend for your music. Looks good and is very solid while not being too big - roughly about 15x15x16. Very handy remote control. Wireless ready - I hear that works fine (I didn't purchase the optional transmitter kit) as long as you don't have 2.4 GHz wireless devices nearby (eg. computer router).

I got mine at newegg.com (price now is $540!) on sale for $299 with a free Polk UltraFit 3000 in-ear headphones (sells at newegg, Best Buy, Polk for $100!). The 550wi goes on sale from time-to-time, so just watch for it.

If you never ordered from Newegg they are the best!
I bought two of these, one from J&R and the one from J&R smelled like in was stored in a warehouse for a year
    the Newegg one smelled new.
I only use them with action movies the 2.3tls are plenty for music

The correct answer, of course, would be the Polk Audio model LF-14 subwoofer! :-)
(I used one with my Monitor 7As back when I was young and... well...)

I have monitor 7s in front, 5s in back, and a 5jr for center channel. I find a PSW10 does a great job for HT. I'm still dialing it in for music - room placement is important in my space. It provides plenty of oomph. And I picked mine up on CL still in the box and styrofoam for $70!.
    HT System:
    Marantz NR-1403
    Front: Klipsch CF-4
    Rear: Paradigm Atom V3
    Center: Boston Acoustic VR12
    Sub: Bowers & Wilkins ASW600

    2Ch:
    Restored Fisher 500C
    Yamaha P-500 Turntable

    Living Room:
    Harman Kardon 3380
    Restored Polk Monitor 7B

    Bedroom:
    Harman Kardon VR-3750
    Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble
    Polk PSW10

    In and out of rotation:
    KLH Model 6,
    Polk LSI7
    NAD 7100

In my sunroom I am using an original Martin Logan Dynamo ( with the 10" aluminum woofer) A nice match indeed with my 10Bs.
Spending way too much on audio for over thirty years.

Well I didn't get a sub yet but I did just pick up a minty pair of ls70s. That was quick! Looking forward to hooking them up tomorrow.

I now officially have too many speakers.
