Hello:

I am thinking of adding a set of front high speaker and and also later some rear sorrounds to my HT. Using a Onkyo TX-NR709. Using RTi12s front CSiA6 Center RTi8s surrounds and JBL L8400P Sub. Thinking of getting either RTi4s or RTi6s.

Any comments on a front high setup.

Cheers

WOW...I guess i would have to ask how big is this room? I mean you allready have a bunch of speakers in there. Why do you want the front high's??

The 12's are very high speakers, and to be blunt, you barley have the power to push them with that AVR...and it may not even be a high current amp...but that i don't know.

What do you feel your missing????

OK...so again i have to ask, how big is this room? how high is the ceiling? It kind of sounds like over kill to me. Not sure what you expect out of it?? If you have the power to push the 12's..altho you say your going for 200watt plus amp..which is what you need for the 12's.....what is the overhead stuff going to do fo you???

LMAO..you HT guys...I just don't get. I have 12's sitting in a 17x30 foot room, i sit 15 feet back (stereo only system)
And have my face beat off by the 12's. You have twice + speakers i have, plus a sub..in a smaller room..yet you still want more speakers.

Hay if that what floats your boat...go for it.

Nothing wrong with adding more speakers if that floats your boat. Thing is, you have to start thinking about powering everything. The more speakers you keep adding, the less power all of the speakers get from that receiver. I would add an amp to those 12's and let the receiver handle the rest. Maybe check out some of Polks on wall speakers for heights.

I'm curious: what is a "high front speaker"? Is it a second front speaker mounted above an existing speaker?
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I have front heights and really enjoy them, I'm currently using M30's however will be going to rtia3's to timber match my front. If you have the room front wides are a better choice than heights. I had to go with heights because of the way my room is setup.

PS HT was the reason I got a system... LMAO at natural light its a chitty beer.

Definition: Dolby Pro Logic IIz processing is an enhancement that extends surround sound vertically. Dolby Pro Logic IIz offers the option of adding two more front speakers that are placed above the left and right main speakers. This feature adds a "vertical" or overhead component to the surround sound field (great for rain, helicopter, plane flyover effects). Dolby Prologic IIz can be added to either a 5.1 channel or 7.1 channel setup.

I'm with Tommy on this one, wides over heights. If you're set on heights, I'd go with FXiA6's, in fact, try moving your 8's to wides and put the FX's in surround. You will double your front sound stage and improve your surround.

    http://www.audyssey.com/audio-technology/audyssey-dsx#techdetails

Give this a read, it should help with wides before heights.

I'm running a 7.2 using wides, when I upgrade to a 9.2, I'll then add the heights, forget rears altogether.

P.S. I've already done the leg work in my system using rears, wides and heights to see which ones get the most content, before I read the link I've provided here, I already knew wides got the vote.

Yeah, heck yeah, try everything you can. The more you experience, the more learn about what does what. I still recommend the FXiA6's over the bookshelves, awesome speaker.
