Steve, its not a good thing. See the quote below:Instead of lamenting the deafening dullness of contemporary pop music, the researchers suggest ways in which their findings can be used to revamp old hits for today's audience.
"An old tune rerecorded using modern techniques that allow for increased loudness and with slightly simpler chord progressions and new instrument sonorities could be perceived as novel and fashionable," Serr? said in a statement."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." This is very interesting data, and of course as far as billboard chart hits we already knew this based on anecdotal evidence. I do wonder, however, how much indie music was used in the data set? I don't mean top 40 "indie" stuff, but all the artists that are harder to find and don't sell as many records. I would venture to say that once you venture (wow two ventures) outside the mainstream this changes significantly. I mean have you ever listened to a paste magazine music sampler? There is often all kinds of crazy on those. Not as loud, unusual instruments, unpredictable chord changes, you name it. But again, I am not surprised about the music of the mass consumer...Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Agreed. Very scary idea to take older songs that "aren't popular" and apply their popular theorem. -
Great. Some moron, will interpret that article, and re-record Sgt. Peppers as Techno. :evil:I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

So, all those "starving" musicians who are drinking themselves into the grave or waiting tables for obnoxious customers be damned. Forget about the fact that they've already written 1000s of "new" tunes that they'd love to share with everyone and make a little money, besides. Let some Fat cats steal old hits and retool them while downgrading their sound!.
What will they think of next? It's never about the "art"!

[sarcasm]Yes, but this study makes it "real". Remember most audiophiles are only hearing crazy things in their deluded minds. Until it's "verified" with a study it's not "real".[sarcasm]
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....
