Scenario for RTi speaker/sub setups

So right now this is what I have:

RTi 10's for fronts
Micro Pro 3000 subwoofer

I have an opportunity to trade the Micro Pro 3000 for RTi 12's, and then obviously I wouldn't have a subwoofer. For now at least. What do you think of this trade? I'm highly considering it, but of course I'd then have to come up with another subwoofer solution. I'm really not huge on gigantic, thumping bass, I just want it to be effective and serve it's purpose. When there's good bass in a song, I want to know it's there. When I'm watching the SWAT team/Joker in the truck chase in The Dark Knight, I want it to come across as intended. Can the RTi 12's provide good bass if I'm running an Onkyo TX-NR809 receiver with a m 1.5-t amp, or should I just find a suitable replacement sub? Maybe something like a PSW505 or PSW110?

I'd personally trade it and sell the 10's, I sold my Rti8's for $400 a few weeks ago on craigslist and I'm sure you could get more for the 10's. That's a decent budget to get a nice subwoofer and have the Rti12's which I think are a better speaker. Just my .02

NO..I would not do the trade..just on the price of the micro pro...Unless you don't like it. I would sell the 10's and buy a set of 9's. On the Polk Ebay site.
The 12's are great, i have them..but for HT, just not going to give you the bass, the Micro pro will.

Well my thought was to order a psw 505 to go along with it.

To be blunt.. I Know nothing about subs..I don't use them. Just going by price....I'm not sure thats a good trade.

Not that the 12's are bad..far from it, but to get bass for HT stuff...probably not. The PSW 505..I have no clue,
So you really need somebody that has that sub to tell you.

Money wise it dose not seem like a good trade, if you have to pay for the 505 sub....just my opinon....

I've ran dual 505's for a while, and it's an ok sub for the price but not great. I would only do the trade if you're willing to sell your 10's and use that money for a nice sub. You could pick up an Outlaw, Epik, Hsu, SVS or ED in that price range. I'd personally rather have the 12's and one of those subs than the 10's and the micropro, but everyones preferences are different.

The 10s are really good speakers. I totally agree with sticking with what you already have. Keep in mind that the 12s can take over a smaller room. They are pretty big.

    Hello:

I have my RTi12s paired with a JBL L8400P(was a good deal at Frys) and using an Onkyo TX-709 with a Parasound 2125 for the RTis. I like the setup but sometimes I just bypass the sub for music. Now the 2125 does a good job on the RTis but I am in the market for something in the 200 to 250w range.

Well I have to say I made the trade and I'm loving the 12's, plus I found a vintage Polk RT3000P subwoofer on Craigslist for $200 and the thing is a BEAST. I already like it more than the micropro 3000, I used it on the Joker/SWAT/Truck chase scene on The Dark Knight and it sounded amazing. The guy claimed the 3000p had probably been used less than 20 times since he had it and he is the original owner. Whether that's 100% true or not, who knows. But I absolutely love it so far.

Nice, glad to hear you're happy with your decision as that's the only thing that matters. How do you feel the 12's compare to the 10's?

I'm happy with them so far, I can't say I've listened to a ton yet but my test is always The Beatles, as I've heard all of those songs 10,000 times. If I can listen to those songs and feel like it's an improvement over what I had, then I know I'll be happy with them. And from what I've heard so far, I can say that. Come Together sounded damn good to me. :)
