Welcome to Club Polk! That's probably the serial number. The U indicates the utility cabinet I believe. Post a picture or see if yours matches any of these here: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=126376

I have the Advent 4U large speakers. Great speakers. If they are in excellent condition can be worth around $300 according to ebay auctions but I have seen them sell for as little as $175. Again this is for the large Advent speakers. The smaller Advent speakers normally sell in the $100 to $150 range. Post a picture and we will be able to see what you have. There should be a number on the back of your speaker next to the letter U. Probably a 3 or a 4.

    Great resource there.

Actually, Advents can be had for very little money compared to AR classics. I'm not sure why.

I have an original set of Walnut cab masonites in close to "mint" condition except for some minor grill stain (not very noticeable--and the woofers were professionally refoamed before I bought them). I picked them up for 100. I'd probably sell them for exactly the same price. Not interested in flipping gear for money. I prefer to pass on my own good fortune on to others when the time comes.

You can overcharge for these. But that's not good form. There are thousands available.

As Dave mentions the U is for Utility, so no real wood veneers there. Also lowers the value some!

Lastly, if you're interested in selling them here. You need 100 posts before you can do that.

If you're buying a set. I think you'll enjoy them.

I have both "New Large Advents and Original Large Advents". My NLA's have the Utility Cabs. They are both sonically very similar and I am not sure if I could hear the difference. The NLA's have a slightly different crossover. Both are really nice sounding speakers. I paid $150 for the NLA's and $60 for the OLA's which needed the woofers refoamed (cost me $20 for the kit).

If I were you I would listen to them for awhile and enjoy!!
