Just Bought a Pair of LSi-15's

I just wanted to post this happy news -

I found a set of LSi15's on the Charlottesville, VA, Craigslist, linked below, for $550.

http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/ele/3127778779.html

A scratch or two here and there, but they have two-and-a-half years left on their five year warranty from Polk.

The seller seems like a real straight shooter and has more audiophile gear in his house than I've seen in one place in years.

I'm traveling on the East Coast and driving back to Illinois soon, but really looking forward to hooking these up to the GFA-555ii I bought a few weeks ago.

I want to publicly thank Skrol for helping me vet a pair of these in Baltimore that I didn't end up getting.

I'll probably be posting questions here to you guys as I try to find ways to best utilize the speakers.

Thanks to everyone for this great forum.

550 sounds like a fair deal considering the current price on ebay. I always wonder how they sound vs lsi9s+sub

Glad to hear that you got a nice pair. It would have been a bit of a haul up here to get the other ones. BTW, I cleaned out my in box.

The pair in Baltimore are still available on CL if anyone is interested ($500). I am not affiliated with the seller but PM me an I can give you the run-down. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/ele/3120701036.html

Not quite yet. I'm in Asheville, NC, heading further west tomorrow. Hope to arrive in champaign on Tuesday or early Wednesday.

I'm wondering if I'll be able to hook up the speakers with the cable I currently have for my 10B's until I can get a proper set of cables.

Posted a query here, http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?134634-Hope-to-hook-up-LSi15-s-in-a-couple-of-days , if u have any advice.

    Thanks.

    Help!

I just arrived home and am trying to set up the Adcom/LSi-15 system.

The posts on the back of the speakers don't seem to want to "open." One set just turns and turns, on the other speaker they don't want to move at all, at least not without a wrench.

Here's what I'm seeing. Is there something I"m missing?

    Thanks.

It sounds like someone torqued them to tight. I used a socket wrench to tighten mine, but once it stopped turning I also stopped. Somebody who has had these speakers apart will help, but I would remove the 4 screws and see if there are any nuts on the back that can be tightened, at least for the ones that turn without becomig loose.

I just removed the panel upon which the posts are mounted and fooled around with one of the posts.

The hex nut inside the speaker was indeed turning as I turned the gold post outside the speaker. I tried preventing the inside nut from turning, but the entire exterior post seemed to be unscrewing, so I stopped that pretty soon.

I think something is missing from the posts, or the posts have been modified somehow. Guess I'll e-mail the seller... :(

I would try that again. The entire outer nut in that picture will come off, there is a inner screw section that should stay connected. Compared to other binding posts in the Polk like the LSi screws are much heavier/beefier than the Monitor series (dont know about the RTi's), so that may be what your feeling.

Try posting a video if you can of what happens when you screw it.

I do agree that it looks like someone tightened them down too much. I hand tightened all mine down on mine and would only use a wrench if there was bare wire in the post, otherwise for banana's hand tight works....

Yeah, I already mentioned that, but no response. I was just pointing it out so he's not disappointed when he gets his speaker cables hooked and wonders why there are no highs or no lows.

I asked someone, Enders I think, about the four posts a while back. He mentioned the jumpers.

Sorry I didn't reply promptly, Heiney, I was on the road 14 hours yesterday.

Cross posting this from another thread, but here's the bottom line -

Seven of the eight posts' covers had never been unscrewed and were practically fused to their respective bases.

I had to take the back panel off, remove the posts/covers and use a vise grip and wrench to get the posts/covers apart. Helluva tedious job given the difficult access to the interior hex nuts.

Couldn't have done it without some amazing tech support from Matt (not Polk, but Matt) at PA, who spent 30 minutes on the phone with me while checking images I was posting to this forum.

    Now enjoying some early REM.

    Thanks, guys!

    LOL.

Well, that all depends on what the definition of "have" is. ;)

I do not have the official jumpers, but I made a pair of jumpers out of spare speaker wire.

It did indeed arrive in one piece and is happily powering my LSi-15's even as I type this.

While this might not be entirely relevant and pretty outdated too, can one of you guys suggest a receiver to go with the LSi15's? The speakers are 4 ohms and most Rx's are now 8 ohms. How did y'all get rid of the impedance mismatch?

    Please reply. Thanks!
