To Make a long story short.....I picked up a sansui fr1080 tt at a yard sale for 80 bucks, but it needs a belt cuz the original literally melted! He also had a B&O 4004 he was holding for someone who backed out, Now theyre both in my possession! $250 for the B&O
Both tables are mint condition overall, The sansui is semi-auto and entry level for them, The B&O is fully auto and top of the line for B&O and this beast weighs like 30 pounds!

There seems to be a bad rap out there for B&O which I don't get,Maybe alot has to do with their pricing..
I feel i may have payed alot for a yard sale, but not too much compared to fleabay..

Only Really need one personally, so how did i do?

I'm with nooshin on this one - seems like a lot of money. The B&O uses a proprietary cartridge doesn't it?

My dad had a B & O 4200 when I was growing up and it is a nice table; however, finding carts and stylus for them is a nightmare. The looks are great, sound better than average but not spectacual- parts and upkeep too expensive for my wallet. Hope you enjoy them since that's what matters most.

I Think i may have overpaid a little on the sansui, but not by much!
I guess 250 seems a little steep on the B&O but keep in mind one just sold on ebay for $475, so i definately don't feel like I got screwed in any sense!
Yardsales seldom have this kind of stuff, so maybe i was a little impulsive after all the turntables i never seem to find.
Another thing that added value for me was the guy really wasn't actively trying to sell this equipment, it was in his house and after some talking he invited me in and he really was into his equipment and took great care of it, so I felt really comfortable with the purchase knowing he was the original owner and paid 3 times what he asked me to pay....

You can only walk into thrift stores so long before you say screw it and bite the bullet!
    Worth it to me!

Too late to worry about price paid now, but dont put any good vynal on either untill u have the old stylus cked out with a microscope , if they are chiped or worn they will distroy your records. Never recomend using old stylus's. They werent made to last 10 yrs nevermind to thier current age. So be warned.

replacement cartridges for the (proprietary) b&o cartridge mounts are not at all hard to find... just expensive. Quite expensive.

The b&o is the better of those two tts in the original post, by a good bit IMO... but, yeah...

I have a later and somewhat lesser b&o TX-2 tangential tracker with a b&o MMC-4 (cartridge purchased new right at the end of their availability from b&o). It is rather flimsily built but works as it should, tracks well, and sounds good. I wish I'd have bought the MMC-2 when I had the chance :-P

Spend a little more time looking for used stuff and see if you still feel that way about the "but not by much" part.

    The other table too.

Is he STILL digging for it? Jesus, it was just a nickel.

Yup. Thought I might find it and turn it over to those handicapped kids.

Okay. $80 for entry-level Sansui that he needs a belt for. That ORIGINAL belt will cost $20 with or without shipping from whoever might have it. Try these folks at www.garage-a-records.com as they seem to be honest with both product and shipping prices. So for $100 he'll still wind up with a like new, BOTL, entry-level (Sansui line entry level from the past, not real world present, Rega or Project entry level for example) turntable which would compare favorably I guess with all the other major electronics manufacturers entry-level tables of that time period.

$250 for A B&O that locks you into only using B&O cartridges? C'mon fellows, that one doesn't even require discussing. Who doesn't know B&O were heavy on the looks but nothing more than adequate on performance, and that if you can find replacement stylii or cartridge for it, you'll pay through the nose for them.

I'm not sure that being aware of this stuff makes me cheap or frugal.

Nope, I did not. I wonder which one of us was us first.
