Was thinking of getting an older Kenwood or Yammy pre to pair with my Kenwood amp. Will I notice any improvement over using my AVR as a pre for 2 ch?

Well, I just won a Kenwood C2 pre on ebay for 58.00 bucks. Didn't think I would win it at that price, so I guess I'll find out soon.

Highly doubt you'd see a big improvement. I could be wrong, but aren't those older Kenwood C1 or C2 pre's part of a rack system ?

No, these were their "piece" units. A step down from their L series, but the C2 retailed for over 400 bucks in the 80s. Just never owned one before. Was using integrateds for a long time before jumping to AVRs for HT and all that. This particular unit looked a tad rough on the outside, but if the innerds are good, I can clean it up ok.
