Hey guys,

I am debaiting on getting selling my epson 8700ub. The only reason that I am toying with the idea is because I would like to upgrade to the panasonic 7000. I have very light use on this projector. As of right now I have 230 hours on the lamp. I also bought the projector when they included the extra bulb so I have a back up bulb that will be included. It comes with the original box, packaging, and remote. If you have any questions please let me know. The projector has literally been taken out of the box mounted to my chief mount and hasnt moved since. On amazon They are selling refurbs of them for about 1700 without bulb. So I guess my price will be 1700 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. I am fairly firm on the price because this is a want not a need :) Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

    Nice projector and great price

I think when you go for the more expensive panny 7000 your not going to get a better picture than the 8700ub your selling

I have seen both in action. I think the panny does blacks better.

Bump, and I guess i shouldnt say it does blacks better. I actually think the immage is about the same. I peresonally like some of the lense adjustments and lense memory features of the panny better, plus the 3d. I dont mean to put down the epson. I actually like the picture very much and it has been a great performer in my system.

Your not wrong there my friend

Take it from me, I own the roughly $1000 more expensive 5010 and I cant tell the difference in image quality when viewing the epson 8700. Great projector and as Jarrita mentions ' Its not a refurb' as you never know who has owned a refurb before you or how its been treated. If your looking for a big bright stellar image then this is the one to get. GLWTS and this thing should pay for its self with the savings you get from scrapping the cinema. If you want a huge screen then amazon has 150" elite pulldowns going for $205 shipped

If you have never owned a pj before then this will blow you away...snag it!!

I would suggest the 5010 over the Panny 7000 for a few reasons OP. In it's best and calibrated mode the Epson 5010 will be brighter and produce better blacks. The Epson will also do better 3D due to it being the brighter of the two. Contrast is also where the Epson will shine providing better black level performance over the 7000.

The Panny will probably have the better feature set, lens memory etc. Performance wise the Epson will be better, especially at 3D.

One of the main reasons I am wanting the panny is the lense lock feature. My projector is in the basement and has to be shifted quite a bit down to miss a soffett, and I have noticed that the picture needs to be re-adjusted to the screen every once in a while. Now, my kids arent that crazy but the vibration from the floor above must make the lense move ever so slightly. the panasonic has a lense lock where you can tighten down the joystick adjustment...there for locking the lense so it cant move. The epson has 2 rollers that dont want to stay in place after you have adjusted them. It may be different for your setup, like if you dont have to lesne shift much or dont have much usptairs vibration this problem would be non-existent. Like i said I am very happy with the projector and the picture, I would probably go with the 5010 if it had a lense lock feature.

The Epsons don't lock, but mine has never drifted out of place. You just have to bump it up and down until the dials rest in the center detente. On my 8500, you have to drop the image down below the bottom of the screen slightly, then push it up until you feel the detente click on the dial. Takes a few tries to nail it, but it never moves if you do. If you're doing that and still having a problem, then I can certainly understand wanting the Panny for that reason. Good luck with the sale!

The detente click is only when the lense is centered correct? I have shifted down quite a wayse to undershoot my soffett. I have started with the picture lower and then moved it up to fit the screen. I havent knoticed any click or detente when i am adjusting the picture unless it is the center. The picture is bumping down further when on the celing.

Not sure if the 8700 is different but on the 8500, the detente click has nothing to do with the lens being centered. Basically, when you're adjusting, overshoot the screen slightly, then bump it back a little. You should feel it click. Takes me a few tries to get things lined up perfectly with the screen so that it rests on the detente, but it never moves after that. Of course, perhaps that doesn't work on extreme lens shifts.
