Is it legal to convert a 5 sitter SUV to 6 sitter?

Only for temp basis only this weekend, mounting a car seats in the back facing the rear window secured with brackets and latches. Just a thought, guess thinking outside the box. Back in college, my friend had a 2sitter jeep wrangler and car seat was mounted in the back for the 3rd additional seat.
