Would FXiA4 be ok with Onkyo TX-NR809?

Hello,

first time here, even though I've had my RTiA9/CSiA6 since last fall :)

I'm looking at the FXiA4 to replace my surrounds, as I found them on sale this week, and the physical size is right for where I need to place them.

The FXiA4 specs mention 20-125 w/channel, but my Onkyo TX-NR809 supplies supposedly 135 w/ch. Will that be too much for the FXiA4 or can I use still use them in my setup?

Thanks for the help!

Your fine. The real world watt per channel with all channels driven is waaayyy less than 135.

You'll be fine. You may actually want to add a power amp to those A9's to make them shine.

    wow that was *quick* :)

    thank you guys!

chumlie - I am looking at adding an Emotiva for the A9's, but I need to figure out where I'm going to put it, and how I can go get it in the US to enjoy some of that free shipping, as I imagine shipping to Canada must be expensive at that weight!

    Have a good weekend!

I have the FXi-A6's now but had the A4's previously, not a huge amoount of difference. What you will notice is if you add an amp to those A9's. When they get the power they deserve they really shine. I use mine with the Emotiva XPA-2, that will really make the most of those nice speakers. Welcome to Club Polk and enjoy your system

@michelito - I have very similar setup to yours. Have you considered FXiA6 ? This way you would match your RTiA9/CSiA6 in size.
I feel like FXiA4 are better match for CSiA4/RTiA5/6.

I wouldn't worry about where to put the amp, you can put it anywhere, just make sure you have interconnects long enough to reach the AVR.

A guy can be resourceful and make his own rack. Also, I wouldn't be too concerned about over driving the speakers as I would under powering them.

I would go with the FXI 4's since they will fit where you inted to put them.

You should really enjoy the Bi/Dipole surround speakers if you've never heard them. I've always used bookshelves and was VERY impressed when I got mine.

I love my emo amps, they work great for someone who doesn't have a lot of extra money and needs to maximize the budget. Once you amp those A9's, you'll be able to get more power to the other 3 speakers from your AVR, as someone mentioned earlier, the power rating on the AVR's are not quite what they seem to be, once you have all your speakers hooked up, the power per channel drops significantly, a tad bit with five, but even more with 7.

That's a very nice AVR you have, and really nice system overall. You can look up bench test results on your model to see what kind of power it's putting out with multiple loads.

Welcome to the forum, be sure to post your results.
