Major Bummer!!

Boy did I screw up! Posted that I had just bought a Onkyo 3009 for $839. NOT. Just looked at the Amazon email and it's the 1009. Spent hrs. on the net, and thought for once in life got a great deal. I'm bummed. Called Amazon, and of course to late to stop shipment, so now have a bunch of hoops to jump thru. Oh well,thanks to all who tried to help. Joe.

    Sorry it wasn't what you thought. I watched the 3009 and 1009 on Amazon and elsewhere for a couple of weeks before making my purchase. So I really had a hard time believing you scored such a good deal. Street/online prices for Onkyos are definitely much lower than their MSRP. As a rule of thumb I usually shoot for about 65% of MSRP, but I have seen them drop down to 60% MSRP. For example, both Vanns and Amazon had the 809 for $649, even though it has a list of $1099. Similarly, Vanns had the 3009 for 1319 which is 60% of the $2199 list price. You might do a little better than that but finding the 3009 for much less than $1250-$1300 will be a challenge.

    @mara5 - sorry to hear that. I am sure 1009 is also a great receiver, but 3009 is probably significantly better. Good luck with getting it right.

    1009 is a great receiver still as the 2012 version (1010 model) drops down to 7 channel amplification only with 9 channel pre-outs.

    @falconcry72 - that was a reference link for user mara5. He is the one who accidentally purchased 1009 instead of 3009. I have spent my money on some nice Paradigms and I would never give them back.

    Amazon has fantastic customer service, I had 3 different avr's within a two month period. They always took them back, paid return shipping if there was a fault with the product and even fronted me my return the last time so I could purchase a new one before they even received the one I was returning. I buy a lot of stuff from them and have for years, but there should be no problem returning it and getting one you want.

    Yup, Amazon has been very good. They could not stop shipment in time, so they just advised "refuse it" upon arrival. They pay return shipping, and will credit account 3-4 business days.
