Amp for a 10" Alpine Type R sub?
Systems

I bought my 10" Alpine Type R sub and box from Circuit City this weekend because the sub was $70 off and the box was about $40 off.
Anyways, I didnt have enough money for the amp, so I must wait a week or so till I can get some money.
My question for you is what amp should I look at to addiquatly power this little monster? I ordered the 4 ohm sub BTW. I would like to get as close to powering it with its max capacity so I can get as much power out of it as possible.
Thx in advance.

Get an Alpine MRD-M300. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-uoPHz3rPyvp/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=500MRDM300&o=m&a=1&cc=01&avf=YPanasonic VIERA 46" 1080p plasma

Is it possible to wire the 4 ohm sub at 2 ohms to get more power? I am sort of worried that I should have gotten the 2 ohm sub to get more power, but the guy recommended I get the 4 ohm one. It is still possible for me to go change it.Testing

you have the dual 4 ohm right. if you do then it is possible to wire to 2 ohms. http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/S-6R7KRLwzCik/subwoofers_wiring.html?subs=1&impedance=DVC4x2Panasonic VIERA 46" 1080p plasma

dont get that POS 300w alpine amp.
if you want to slam the living **** out of that sub, and make it do what it was meant to do, get an amp that's going to put out enough power ...
dual 4 ohm sub can be wired at a single 2 ohm load.
so get a 600 watt class D mono amp.
cheap = JBL BP600.1 -- cost you like 160 - 170 on ebay...
better = MTX 6500D -- cost you like 225 on ebay.
even better yet = i duno, i'm tired... but you get the idea. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
The guy there suggested a 420watt rms MTX amp, it was about $299 there.
I really dont want to buy off ebay or online because I would like the 4 year warrenty offered by CC, that way I can bump it as hard as I want w/o worrying about destroying my $400+ investment.Testing

Looks to me like you just made your decision then.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

alpine MRD-500 --- 500 x 1 at 2 ohms, carried by circuit city so u an get your 4 yr cheese, and it'll bump with 500w rms - in the 399 retail range i believe. maybe more.
jbl BP 600.1 -- 600 x 1 at 2 ohms, carried by circuit city, so again, 4 yr, and its 600w and like 299 retail i think.
just two other options...
i've nothing against mtx, i use them religiously... but the new ones will only do that 420-ish and no more ... whatever they're rated at - they're at, period, unlike older mtx which far exceeded its sheet. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
Do the jlb amps put out as much as they claim? is it clean?
I'll probobly go check out Good Guys also to see what they have that is comparable with CC.
I really want to get as close as I can to putting the 600 watts RMS on the sub.Testing

look at this 800watt @ 2 ohm audiobahn amp
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ABNA8000T
looks insane and is only $300 on that site. I am going to see if CC will pricematch it. if not, i'll just get it online, because it's a much better deal. and if i dont run the amp at full gain all the time(first reason is to not overpower the sub) then i should be fine right? it should last a long time?Testing

The JBL BP600.1 will put out at least 600 watts rms(probably actually over 700) @ 2 or 1 ohm. If it were me buying the amp, I'd buy the JBL before I'd buy the Audiobahn."The Big C"

Got it installed!! it is really great, the bass is so nice in my car, it makes my hair tingle.
anyways, i was wondering what are optimum bass and treble frequencies? i have bass on 100 and treble on 10, i really cant hear a difference on them all, but maybe you can tell me what i should have them set on to sound the best?Testing

I think you dun good. I am a big fan of Alpine and I think their amps are excellent especially the V12 series. As far setting the bass and treble, thats entirely up to you bro. What sound good to me may sound like crap to you. Just tinker with the settings and eventually youll get it dialed in to where you want it. And remember, more bass does not necessarily equal better sound. You still need to hear your mids and highs. Dont you? lolTesting
