It's been big news; haven't actually read anything but the headlines yet, though, myself.

    Cool stuff...been reading on this.

This discovery seems to complete the Standard Model of the Universe - but I think it still poses some 'quarks' with the Super Symmetry Theory

Now that would be a twist....start half the field in the opposite direction....first car to make it all laps is the winner!

Amazing science coming out of an amazing machine. Still not saying its the Higgs quite yet. '' Particle consistant with the Higgs ''. I think its a shame we cut off funding for the Supercolider we were building in Texas.

Thanks! Interesting article! Like mhardy, I'd been seeing headlines and knew they were going to make a definitive announcement once they had spent more time checking and rechecking the experimental results.

This is pretty exciting stuff, even for a layman! I've always been fascinated by the world of Physics. My first two years in Grad School I shared a suite with a Classics major and several Physicists. It looked a bit like TVs Big Bang Theory. There were two Physicists from Taiwan who had come to study with Li Zhengdao (among others). One was an experimental physicist, the other a Theoretical--they argued ALL the time! There was also a guy who was into solid state physics and was one of the top 10 mountain climbers in the U.S. at the time. Pretty much Nerdvana for a Social Scientist! lol

It was always interesting to try and understand whatever I could, and that's not to say there weren't times when I was clueless but the boys were pretty good at explaining things. Oh, another experimentalist in my section was actually named .'Leonard'.

Take care guys, and enjoy the 4th!

I'll just wait for next season's Big Bang Theory to come out for all the info I need to know concerning this.
