The people we have lost this year is sad. The loss of Andy hits me just as hard as the day we lost Elizabeth Montgomery in 95.

Sorry to hear of his passing, very sad indeed. We don't have quality, clean living actors like Andy Griffith anymore. One of his greatest roles besides being Sheriff Andy taylor was his role of Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes in the classic movie "A Face In The Crowd". I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie to all.

When I first saw " A face in the crowd" "Lonesome Rhodes" I was blown away at the level of realism Andy Griffith brought to his character. That movie should be a manual to see in school. I think he won an acadamy for best actor or it could've been best Picture that year. Anyway, GREAT MOVIE !!

John, "And what it was was football" is one of my ALL TIME greatest comedic skits that is up there with Abott and Costello's, Who's on third. I hunted for years to get the recording of the football skit and I finally did about 4 years ago before the internet became so easy to find anything.

I still love to watch the clean humor of "The Andy Griffith" show. I'll own that collection one day. I loved the Don Knotts charactor "Barny" and the town country bumkin ....Ernest T. Bass. All the other charactors like "Floyd" and the gas station attendants. Even Gomer Pyle spun off for his own series. Great, great times back in those years for us to see the shows for the first time when they came out. Great Writing and story telling for sure all under the guidence of a great visionary.

    RIP Mr. Griffith.

Thanks for making my life feel at peace while watching your series about Mayberry RFD.

If you guys get a chance look up Brad Paisley's video Waitin on a Woman with Andy in it. Great video and the fact he left this world before his wife makes this video even more moving...

I can't seem to post the link with my iPad. Look for it under VEVO.

I don't want to turn this thread into another discussion, but I am just dumbstruck by how GOOD his shows (Andy Griffith Show and Matlock), even today they hold up well. Then you turn on the tube for something decent to watch and all there is now is stuff that would have never been discussed in private being broadcast for all the world to see in prime time... sad really how far we have strayed from the wholesome values of days gone by.

I held the door open for a little old lady the other day, and she looked at me like I wanted to steal her purse. His passing reminds me of better times, and on the hot days of summer, some fresh-squeezed lemonade! I will be drinking some tommorow in his honor.

    RIP, Andy Griffith.

"What it was, was football", "Hamlet", "A Face in the Crowd", "No Time for Sergeants" .... the man was great.

Local radio talk show brought up an interesting view, IMO: The Seinfeld Show & the Andy Griffith Show had one thing in common: they were about nothing.
    Nothing but common everyday experiences.
No "Snookie", no "Kardashian", no crap, just ..... stuff. Everyday normal stuff.
Episodes where Opie killed a songbird with his slingshot. Where Aunt Bee unknowingly got snookered on homemade hooch (happened to Barney once, too, when Otis dumped his moonshine in the water barrel to hide it).

Good stuff. Whole familly could watch.
Have to admit I didn't much care for Helen Krump; I always thought "Miss Ellie", the pharmacist gal was prettier and fit into Mayberry a lot better (she played the daughter on the "Father Knows Best").

So, Andy, you done did good. RIP

I remember watching the Andy Griffith Show on TV in the early 60's when my older brother had gone to school.

Always an interesting, absorbing story with a surprise or two, and quirky characters that even a little kid could relate to.

I remember wondering why Opie didn't have a mom, and I saw Andy and Aunt Bea trying to fill that hole as best they could.

It seems there was always a lot of kindness and concern for others in that little town of Mayberry. I remember thinking that I would like to live there.

There was usually a subtle moral lesson to be learned in each episode but not preachy.

In the 60's and early 70's there were a lot of "hillbilly" shows on TV like The Beverly Hillbillys, Hee-Haw, Pettycoat junction, Green Acres etc. While some were pretty funny, most of them seemed to portray country people as laughable buffoons that the more "sophisticated" people could laugh at. In contrast, The Andy Griffith show was respectful, gentle and "nice".

    I will miss Andy Griffith.

Loved that show. Barney was the perfect foil to Andy's straight man. One of my favorite episodes was the one in which Barney hid in the department store one night to catch thieves. He pretended to be a mannequin dressed as a hunter.

And of course there was always his one bullet, the one he kept in his shirt pocket 'cause Andy wouldn't let him carry it in his revolver.

    I can still hear him say. . ."Now men. . . ."
