Hey guys, I'm in the process of building my first audio system. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this as I'm college. However, I already have a couple of components. What I have so far includes a pair of Monitor 7's and an Onkyo TX-41 Receiver. I'd like to get a turntable and a good CD player. However, I'm new to all of this so I realize that it might should a preamp or amplifier. I would appreciate any help you guys could give me on what would work well with my speakers. I had the receiver before I got the speakers, so if I need to get a different receiver I'm ok with that. Anyways, I would love to hear everyone's thoughts as to what would be some good components to acquire.

A good affordable CD player is the Marantz CD5004. You can either buy a used one or a new one at $349 with a three year warranty.

After hearing a Schiit DAC playing from a laptop I believe I would think about that route also. You can control your music via a iphone or droid device via bluetooth. Rip all your CDs and play them using a player like JRiver. Just a thought.................

Here is the link to the Schiit Bifrost DAC.... http://schiit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=7

I will definitely look into that Schiit DAC, but I'm still interested to hear more thoughts on CD players and turntables. Even alternatives to my current receiver. Also just because something is pricey don't feel like you can't mention it. I will still consider it; it just might be a while before I am able to purchase said piece of equipment.

Hey bud, welcome to the club first off. You haven't had alot of responses mainly because your asking a pretty open ended question which could mean hundreds of possibilities. Maybe narrow it down a tad with a budget and what you want to accomplish in the short term and maybe farther down the road.

Also read up on some threads old and new to get an idea of what others are using, it may interest you.
