Aluminum slab under DF SW?

I have a carpeted room and read that many people have put tile or granite to get rid of the muddy bass. Would a 1/2" thick piece of aluminum or polycarbonate under the sub would work? I have access to these two materials for free but if it would sound better with plywood or something else I will be willing to spend the money to make something from home depot.

You will find most people are using 1-2" thick pieces under their sub... 1/2" would rattle just as much as your floor..

2'x2'x2" concrete pavers works great - 8 bucks!
