Remote 12v trigger options?

I could use some advice on 12v triggers. My present receiver, Onkyo SR-875, does not have a 12v trigger for the main zone (only the 2nd zone). Since my Parasound 2250 has an input sensor, I have not needed a 12v trigger so far. However, I'm thinking about swapping the Parasound for a Cambridge Audio 840W (which is in my office system), and the CA does not have the ability to sense a signal although it has a 12v trigger. The CA 840W has some kind of control bus trigger that is designed to work with other CA preamps. However, the Onkyo does not have the same. Is it possible to buy a remote 12v trigger? Maybe something that would plug into an AC outlet and be activated by remote control? I already have too many remotes, so what's one more...

    A couple of suggestions:
    1. The picture I found of your Onkyo shows there is a 12v trigger for zone 2. Is it possible to have zone 2 always powered on when the AVR is powered on?
    2. It also has a switched A/C plug, maybe you could find a 12v power supply to plug into that and connect to your amp? I put a link to a web site with what I am referring to, you would have to make a connector for the amplifier end but it puts out 12v.

Last my PSAudio Quintet also has outlets that can be switched on/off, I use this feature for cooling fans and my subwoofer. The problem is they require a 12v trigger input to work. Looking at the back of the Furman txcoastal1 linked to it seems to have the same 12v trigger input and I think you will run into the same problem with that unit. That is you need a 12v trigger input to make this feature work.

I have an Onkyo PR-SC886 pre/pro and it has several menu-addressable 12v triggers. Have you looked through the setup menu to see if you can 'tell' the trigger to come on when the AVR is powered on?

Another option I have used is to buy cheap 12V wall-wart power supply and plug it into a switched AC outlet on the AVR.

I have the same problem. I have the onkyo 876 with emo mono blocks. I used my monster power switch but I still have to turn on one amp. You could pick up a trigger switch for around $30 out there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have an APC conditioner and was looking for a simpler/cheaper option. And was also a bit concerned about the issues raised by MADGSF.

I thought about your option 1, but I don't believe I can do surround that way.

Option 2 does seem like a it would work. I will definitely consider it. Unfortunately the newer Onks no longer have the AC outlets in the back so if I upgrade my AVR I may be back to stage 1. But for the short term it does seem like it would work. Thanks!

rtart, Unfortunately, the SR875 does not have assignable triggers. I believe that is a step-up feature for what you have and the comparable Integras. For me it is the kind of feature that I would have never thought of looking for until now!

The wall-wart idea does seem feasible. Thanks.

For now I guess that will work using the AC outlet on the back of the 875. If I upgrade to another Onk then I guess I'll have to look for a remote controlled outlet switch.

There is this box as well. http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/accessories/products/et3

Personally I built a similar device years ago from an industrial AC-to-AC relay. I energized the coil (turn-it-on) side using the AVR's switched AC outlet and used the contact side for the power for the switched equipment. I used a power strip to add extra outlets for switched devices. I had the relay laying around (I'm an engineer) and the other stuff was cheap or around as well. I doubt you could duplicate the project for the $36 that Emo wants for their box, though.

That's the exact box I was referring to without name dropping. I was gonna pick it up last year at their fest but decided to wait. Picked up a 2ch amp instead. I think that will be your cheapest route

Rtart/VT, That looks cool. I have no problem with spending $36. But I must admit to being confused by the statement
"If you're using a device such as a receiver that does not have a trigger output, simply plug in the included power adapter to the switched output of your device, and your triggered accessories will turn on and off with the switched outlet. " What do they mean by "switched output of your device" ? Sorry for being so dense.
