    And was also wondering if it's still crucial to do when the speakers are sitting on a concrete floor (+carpet, +carpet padding, of course).

    Even more so, since they are on carpet.

    Btw: spikes? I don't really get that. My 2.3's are on a carpet, which is on top of a concrete floor. What would spikes do for me?

    Spikes will tighten up the bass and improve clarity.

    +1! I had modded 1C's. I now have modded 2.3TL's. The 1C's have been sold. The 1C's were fantastic but the 2.3's are better. Not much else needs to be said. :biggrin:

    Well, now that I feel like a complete idiot, I almost didn't get back on to let you know how my listening to the 2.3TL's has turned out. Yes, you were all right:
    - the tweeters ARE worlds better (SL3000 vs SL2000)
    - the bass is awesome....just what I was looking for
    - midrange definition is much, much, much better than the 1C's
    I thought the 1C's were all I ever needed, but now I know better. The 2.3TL's are all I ever need :smile:
    I've tested the speakers with different music to evaluate them: Jack Johnson (fancy lower frequencies), Bob Marley (booms and bangs in the lower frequencies), CSN (midrange definition), Led Zep & Hendrix (just for fun), Neil Young and Hot Tuna (accoustic stuff), and so on, and so on. All I can say that I've teared up a bunch of times and that I am speechless. I think that I'm being honest when I say that I am a Polkie now...for life...:cry: ha ha ha
    Thanks much to all you guys for pointing me in the right direction. I'm sure we'll talk soon (when I drive you crazy about the mods...lol).
