Hi , Everyone agrees and I'm w/ you on this that my Infinity SM112s are a fatiguing, tinny and thin sounding speaker. Compared to my Bose 601s there is no comparison, the Bose win out hands down. So I was wondering barring getting a better set of speakers which I've had my eyes on Polk 11t, Klipsch Fortes, or those Wharfdales Pacifics would it be prudent to change out the 10'' woofers in each of them maybe add some deadening fill.I really do not know if this is fiesable but I really like the condition the cabinets are in and the styling w/ the bullnose fronts and the mini risers and there is nothing wrong w/ the grills which I have off right now.Money just thrown away or a cheaper fix to a very mediocre speaker.....

You could mod them, but since the drivers are nothing special, your best bet would be to sell them and move on."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

The Infinity "SM" series are terrible speakers - the cabinets are flimsy and unbraced, there is no internal stuffing, and the drivers are cheesy. They really aren't worth much effort. Sad but true.

Fortes are great, but you will probably have to change electronics to get the best out of them. I would suggest the Polk 11t or similR vintage Polk option. Great sound at a great price, and never fatiguing.

Messing with polyfill and the woofers don't seem to me to be any way to address tinniness. New tweeters would be my best guess for that fix.

Sell them and get better speakers like the 11t's.

yea , it seems these will be the first to hit the road once I get some decent speakers at a price point I can afford. When they were my 1st set of towers in my 2-chl system I had nothing to compare them to. Now w/ my refoamed Boses as I said there really is no comparision. The Infintys are MUCH louder w/ doesn't equal quality of sound.I do pump more pwr into the Bose but it's no problem whatso ever for the Adcom 555.I'm leaving them as is and either will flip them when something comes around,I can't see them in a dumpster......2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Goodwill or some other charity will provide a better end for them than a dumpster ever could.

I'm sure someone you know is in need of something to boost their home listening but can't afford a system. Your speakers would be good for someone else. Your journey is a different one, as by the tone of your question you are on a quest for better audio. Let your speakers make someone else happy, and find yourself something that will make you happy. Fake **** on an ugly woman might maker her torso look better, but that's about it. Same with audio.
