Whew, what a day. I had decided to try and get a Denon DVD-3800 Thursday when I found out some of the Tweeters stores near me still had the 3800's and was selling the last of their display units for 498.00. Each store had just one left. So I called around trying to find one that was made after 10/02, because of a faulty laser pickup problem on the ones made prior to October of 2002. Anyway, I called one of the stores in Charlotte and one of the guys checked the build date, and told me it was made in March of this year. So I had decided this morning I would drive an hour and a half to go buy it. Now mind you, I called this guy twice to make sure of the build date, both times he said the same thing. Ok, here I go..... an hour and a half later, I go into the Tweeter store and nose around, trying to find the unit I was there to buy........ Ah.... Found it. Now lets check that date...... Oh.... for crying out loud......*&^%$%&* Then a dude walks up and says, can I help you? Hm........ why, yes, you can. Then I give him the spill.... then the sales manager walks over.... then I give him the spill. The point was, I had drove 80 miles, and wasted an hour and half of my time, because some snot nosed kid gave then the wrong info, and that I wouldn't even have left the house, had I known the truth. Then the sales manager says, I'm really sorry.... And I said, sorry.... that really doesn't help now does it? Well, in so many words, thats what I said. Then I ask about the best Denon close the price they were selling the 3800 for. Of course, that was the 2200. The sales manager then says, well I could knock alittle off the 2200, since you have been put out like this. I say.... Hm..... how much? Manager says.... ah.... 50 bucks or so... Now, that 50 off would have been off of list price, which they were selling the 2200 at 629.99. So, thats not really a good deal. So I then say, well.... really doesn't make me feel much better. Then, he says, ok, I'll let you have it for 550.00 + tax. I say, let me call my wife. So I did. I have her check the internets pricing, which the lowest was around 495.00. After 30 mins I go back in and let him know my wife is now ticked at me, and that now, she doesn't even want me to get anything. So, he says I'll go 530.00 on it, we talk alittle bit, then I say, If you'll take 15 more off the price, I'll buy it, and take it home today. So I did. Got it for 515.00 plus tax, from a authorized dealer, and have 90 days to bring it back for a upgrade at full value of what I paid.

The sales manager was very nice about it all, and being that good about the whole ordeal, is why I'll prob go back soon and spend more money there.

Long winded I know. But I just wanted to share my first Denon product story.

Cheers,
Terry

Congrats on the purchase! You're going to love the 2200. My only advice is to take your time with configuration and setup. The 2200 has a lot of settings that can make or break it's performance within your system.

Thanks guys, I had been badly needing a DVD upgrade for some time. I tried like 5 different players over the last few months and there was always something not to like about everyone of them. The one I liked most till now was the Pioneer DV-563As, it had some really nice audio on it, and really good PQ, but one day when switching from interlaced to progressive, it blacked out, so I took it back.

I've had few days now with the Denon, and I really don't wanna jinx myself, but WoW! Very very nice PQ, SQ is super as well. But in the end, I'm after the 5900. So I'll save up over the next few weeks and prob upgrade to the 2900, and try and do the same when I can to get the 5900. ;)

    Cheers,
    Terry

Terry, congrats on the 2200, and great negotiation skill! :)

Btw, if your eventual goal is to get to 5900, just be aware that it is very deep (17.1"), other than that, is the ultimate piece of machinery!...
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
