Hello. I just picked up my first set of polk audio speakers today at a garage sale. They are M12 speakers and I paid $50.00 for the pair. Cosmetically they have a few issues but all the drivers work. However, when I was listening to them tonight I noticed some scratchiness coming from the tweeters. One in particular is really scratchy. I noticed from reading a few posts on here that this is a common issue with the sl2500 tweeters. I also read that the RDO-198's are the replacement tweets for the sl2500's. Will replacing the sl2500's with the RDO-198's eliminate the scratchiness altogether? Here are some pics of my M12's

Nice score. I have no experience with those tweeters so, sorry I can't help. Welcome to club polk.

    Welcome to Club Polk!!

Even if you have to put in a couple of new tweeters, that is a nice score! For the price paid - a really nice score!!

Others more in-the-know will weigh in soon on if that's the right replacement tweeter - maybe tomorrow, I think everyone's out celebrating Polk Audio's 40th Birthday today (Friday)!

Watch your wallet around here, some of these people will be happy to help you part with some serious coin!

If that's the right replacement tweeter, I think Polk sells them for $60 apiece - but if you tell them you're a Club Polk member, they'll sell them to you for $48 apiece and give you free shipping!

Polk's customer service really is pretty hard to beat.

    Welcome to Club Polk.

At what volume level did this issue become evident and what are you using to power them with? Also, what is your source?

My guess is that it may just be the pioneer itself certainly is old enough to have some oxidation in some of the pots.
