Oppo BD-83 as a source for Bluray music

The July 2012 issue of stereophile has a review of the new NAD M51 DAC. In addition to the usual inputs, it also has an HDMI input, stereo only. As part of the review, the reviewer hooked up the Oppo 83 via HDMI and played high-res, 24 192k, Bluray music, and loved it.
I have been buying the same music since it includes an SACD, and have been wanting to also play the Bluray in my two channel system, but didn't have the ability. Reading the review made me think about buying the NAD to replace my Bryston DAC, and using my spare Oppo BDP-83 as the Bluray source.
However, it occurred to me that maybe the SPDIF digital out of the 83 will also send the Bluray files to my Bryston DAC, thus saving me the 2K the NAD costs. I will hook it up tomorrow night and give it a try.
However, has anybody ever tried sending Bluray music to a DAC with a Oppo? If it doesn't work then that will save me the hassle of pulling the rack out to wire everything up.

Well, it was a good idea, but it didn't work as I wanted. The Bluray audio played as 24 bit 48K, which is certainly better than 16 bit 44.1K, but it isn't 24 192K. The Oppo manual said due to bandwidth limitations the coax and optical digital out were limited. However, my DAC will accept 192K over coax. Anyway, it probably is better that it didn't work since then I would have to buy a Shunyata power cord, and some Mapleshade brass footers for the Oppo. That's another $1500.
I guess I will wait until I have more Bluray music before considering the NAD for the two-channel. Besides, I can play these in the multi-channel surround/HT system, so all is not lost.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
