Yeah I noticed they have played with the pricing. RTiA9's are now $699/each down from $999 so I'm not what they are doing.

Perhaps they are making room for something new ;)

699 each is still way expensive. I sometimes see Fry's has for 799 or 899 pair.

FutureShop...ran away from the US market a decade ago now. They left holding me a bag of 3 extended warranties of zero value...I have no love for these runaway snakes.

Sorry to hear that. However, Future Shop was purchased by Best Buy and as such, they now manage warranties for FS. Did you not try calling someone?

Uhm, it's still 249$ for a pair of RTiA1 (including a "false" 30$ saving) and 349$ for a pair of RTiA3 on their website. As for the RTiA9, they can be seen @ 399$ each... but it doesn't last long, as do not happen often... :P

Maybe they did mixed up prices for a few days?

Fry's tried to sell me a pair of the RTI A9s while I was buying my Denon AVR 1612 receiver. I declined, saying that 75W/ channel would not be enough. I was then told that I was wrong and that 75W/chann would be plenty of juice for the RTI A9s. Wanting to avoid a prolonged debate about a subject with which I am only vaguely familiar, I decided to humbly bow out by saying that those speakers were outside of my budget. In other words, I had to admit to them that I was a poor person in order to avoid a confrontation which could've resulted in my HT ignorance being showcased for everyone in the immediate area to see.

Truth be told, if I had felt that those speakers would pair with my entry-level receiver with no issues, I would've taken a considerable amount of time to think it over. But in any case, that brief dialogue with the HT sales people at Fry's later made for a good laugh with a friend of mine who was certain as to who was right and who needed more training at Fry's.

Of course, I understand that salesmen do what they do because that is what they do. Still, I can't help but think that a Tweeter or Good Guys salesperson would've been at least somewhat more informed. Gone are the days...

    Or was I wrong?

Well... You're right about the fact that the A9 needs a lot of power to truly shine. As I worked in one back in the days, most big box stores sales person aren't trained at all except on some particular domain. Other than that, they need to take their information all by themselves, thing most won't do. They'll tell people some horrible crap only to get a higher pay check. At Futureshop, I even destroyed most of the salesman's "claims" using logical reasoning and "popularized" theory in front of some potential buyers. He wanted to sell things at an higher budget (using the claim, bigger is better), selling a couple of RTiA9 towers, a 550$ receiver paired with a crappy usb Turntable for an old lady how wanted to hear her old LPs.

Anyways... you can't beat the big boxes prices, but to get knowledgeable input, you gotta use the Internet and/or smaller shops.
