Saw this guy on austin city limits several years ago, was blown away, especially by choctaw bingo and we cant make it here.

Unfortunately, the first is only on a live recording called live in aught three, but i went ahead and ordered two of his cds,"It had to happen", and "Where did you hide the body".

Gave em a cursory listen, decided i had wasted my money.

About a month ago, dragged em out to give em another try, I cant remember the last time i have enjoyed rehearing someones music.

Hes a self described misanthrope, and it shows in some of his lyrics, but its really great music, and the recording quality is excellent, to my ears, almost like an sacd or such.

BTW, his dad authored the lonesome dove books

I thought his name sounded familiar. Never read Lonesome Dove, but the series is one of the best things ever on TV - IMHO!

The live in aught three album is excellent and as a live album is the "rocker". I think the recording quality is excellent. I got this second hand used in a bulk buy of music off of ebay. Don't know if there are any changes, but it is now available off his official website.

James McMurtry has grown into one of the very best American singer/songwriters -
or maybe more a poet who adds music...
    Check out all his work.

St. mary of the woods is the studio version, seems a little slower, as you said, the live version rocks, found his stuff available on amazon, bought the live one, also fleetwood mac rumours, and adele 21 for deb.

Will be here thurs, cant wait.

By the way, theres a youtube vid of james in a little bar solo on acoustic, singing choctaw bingo, pretty impressive stuff.
