Just got this yesterday . First, I have to say what a beautiful packing and packaging job Oppo does. I have never received anything packed so well. It even comes with its own little Oppo carrying bag lol..

Set up is relatively intuitive although there is a slight learning curve. It comes with two HDMI outlets and it does so many things that I am still figuring out where to put what on my Integra DHC 80.3. For movies so far I have it hooked up via HDMI to the Blu Ray/ DVD input and for music the only thing I had left was VCR/ DVR. I originally wanted to put it on the Aux input but I discovered that I will really need the onscreen menu for audio selections and the integra's Aux input does not support HDMI. I'm still figuring out the little wonky business of HDMI1 and 2 as my HD Audio wouldn't work on movies until I switched the video priorities for some reason. Cable maybe? Well , like I said, learning curve..

I popped in my first SACD, Lightening Hopkins something or other and I was immediately aware of the difference in the sound of the DAC in the Oppo vs my Integra. I had my Integra set to Multichannel Direct and Holy cow! Night and day! Any question I had about missing Audyssey using the analog on the Oppo went right down the crapper. No question .. No contest. I wish I could run all my music through the Dacs in the OPPO, like my Squeezebox Touch. Then I played some Diana Krall flac from a USB and was just floored with the quality I was hearing. I felt like I had my dedicated two channel rig back...in a home theater!

For movies, I haven't really heard a difference via HDMI. I did listen to some Master and Commander via multichannel analog and it sounds terrific. I am tempted to delve into that further but am more hesitant to go without Audyssey here as I have multiple subs not exactly equidistant and I like the bass management. A lot. But wow those Sabre Dacs sounds pretty temptingly sweet. I might have to bring the SMS-1 back into play.

Needless to say, I am thrilled. For anyone who thinks they have to choose between 2 channel and HT, the OPPO could be your missing link at a pretty reasonable price. I am very glad I got it over the BDP 93.

The OPPO 95 is one hell of a player. Those Sabre DACS are really what makes it sing. I had to think long & hard between the 93 & 95 for my application. I wanted to go HDMI for simplicity & I realized that you can only take advantage of the Sabre DACS via analog which is how you're set up by the multi-channel inputs. I really thought hard about staying with analog but in the end HDMI won out for me. Remember you have to keep the multi-channel hookup via analog to take advantage of the Sabre DACS. All in all a great choice & enjoy the player & it's great DACS.

Congrats on the new toy Darla, the 95 has many other high end players scratching their heads. Wouldn't it be nice if they added a digital input to these so you could take advantage of the dacs with a SB or Sonos. Wonder if anyone mods these units to do that.

If you use J. River Media Center, you can configure a DLNA server that will allow you to play all of your files with the Oppo through the network connection. Windows Media player won't do this for FLAC, Apple Lossless, or High Rez. files (at least not natively).

I just figured this out a few weeks ago with my 93 and was impressed with the SQ compared to my W4S DAC; enough so that it has me thinking again about upgrading to the 95.

This has always been the deal-breaker for me with the 95....no digital input...I'd rather use another cd player as a transport, rather than wearing out the 95 with a lot of music only usage.I'm saving up for the 93 with the Audiolab M-Dac or the Yulong D18,both have the Sabre Dac and are in the $700-800 range.

Can this be done with the Logitech Media server?

Congrats on the 95! keep exploring its prowess, but one to do right away if you haven't already is to set the FR/FL output to stereo to double stack the Ess Dac's for the stereo FR/FL (balanced or stereo outs and not the fr/fl on the 7.1 outs) and use them for stereo and this configuration drives the main channels for movies and sacd playback. And kudos on the J.River post, I found that last year and can really see why the 95 needs no digital input besides the usb/esata.

This is a little surprising since my much cheaper HK HD990 CDP has exactly that: BOTH coaxial and toslink inputs so you can use it as a DAC. And it's not half bad there!

Nice review of the 95, wingnut..! Almost everyone who has run the 95 has had very little bad to say about its analog performance.

    Enjoy!

Just so I have this right...I leave the F/R F/L in the multichannel input on Integra but just slide them over to the stereo on the Oppo right?

Also, how can I successfully run an HDmi cable for movies and sound to the Integra and the another ( HDMI2) to my music only input?

Correct on the Onkyo /Oppo configuration, just be sure to change the configuration in 95's setup menu from downmix to FL/FR stereo and your good there. As for the Hdmi I will do my best on this one as I run the Hdmi 1 (which has the Qdeo processing) directly to my display, if I understand things correctly for running two hdmi cables and being all of the Oppo's outputs are live you can go into the setup menu and you have to scroll down on the hdmi setup and you can may explicit choices for the outputs (hdmi 2 audio only and such) You can set Hdmi 1 for video only and let hdmi 2 handle all audio and no video as well to simplify things!

Hope the latter helps, give it a go and post back and we can talk color spacing and deep color options as I have found they do and make noticeable differences.

Be careful with the firmware updates OPPO likes to push. The last on I ran on my 95 jacked everything up - meaning it now seems to do everything a lot slower and it will often hang in the middle of a movie (Blu-Ray). Other than that it's a great player, just kind of pissed that a $1K player would load as slow as the 95 does.

Thanks! Got it. Which color options should I choose? I have a Pioneer Kuro non elite.

There was a discussion over on AVS forums about the Pioneer Kuro's loving RBG(not pc) for color spacing, 24p set to on and 36 bit deep color this is hdmi 1 of course! I also found RBG to pass all the test on Spears & Munsil calibration disc as well on my Mitsubishi 73738 dlp, so it sounds like a great place to start.

As for the latest firmware issues its mostly Netflix and YouTube that may freeze and have slow navigation, I did notice a reinstallation of the firmware helped a bit, if possible use a flash drive for firmwares instead of over the web. Great thing with a company like Oppo I'm sure there on it after a purchasing one of the first batches last March 12 2011 this is the first time a firmware has slowed operation of the unit but it has no effect on any of my disc playback!

    Still in Love:cheesygrin:

Thanks. I'll try those settings. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to play my music from the external hard drive. It sees the drive but when I click on the music folder and the song it freezes.
