Pio Elite DV-79avi with SDI video out mod!

Hi guys,

Descendent of the rave-reviewed DV-59avi, this unit has been modified with an SDI video output by jvbdigital. For those who are not familiar with SDI out, it allows a 'pure' digital feed from the DVD to an external video scaler/processor. No digital to analog conversion or scaling before it goes to the outboard processor. I use a DVDO VP30.

Other outputs include 2 channel analog, 5.1 analog, HDMI, Pio's i-link (IEEE1394), component, s-video and SPDIF and coax. Great build quality. Plays SACD and DVD-A. Pio's i-link allows high resolution connection via a single wire.

I've used i-link with a DV-47ai (also) into an i-link equipped Pio Elite AVR for years and really enjoyed it. Started with a VSX-56txi and progressed through a VSX-84txsi AVR.

Used with no problems ever to feed my DVDO VP30 into a HDFury and a NEC PG10 CRT projector. I rarely watch DVD's anymore after a 'larger-than-my-wife-would-like-if-she-knew' investment in BD and HD DVD discs. My PS3 does an acceptable job of upconverting the few DVD's I watch (kids movies), but there IS a visible difference between the PS3 and this unit.

I'm looking for $200 plus shipping and would include the DVDO SDI input card (which works in the VP30 and VP50) for an additional $50. I've got the original manual and remote (I use a ProntoPro.)

In deference to Polk's bandwidth, I'm not posting pix but can email them to you if you have interest.

I have lots of all-positive experience selling A/V gear through various forums. If you'd like that info I can provide it as well on request.

rtart I am posting intrest in a possible trade as discussed via PM. I am 99% sure this will work out, I just need to check a couple things on my end packaging wise.

Also can you post pics just for giggles.

Hi guys, endersShadow was unable to move forward on this so it's available. He was going to trade a sub for this but he's had some health issues and had to pass.

    Hope he's better soon.

    Thanks!

I'm actually considering pairing it up with a Pioneer Elite VSX-84txsi AVR that will accept i-link signal from this unit and selling it as a package deal. It would be killer for hi-rez multichannel playback, and will do anything one might need in a HT capable AVR. I used it that way until I went to an Onkyo PR-SC886 and a Sherbourn 7100 amp.

rtart the player arrived today, excellent packing and beautilful looking and sounding unit.

Significantly better sounding than the Crapsung BRP I was using which I thought sounded pretty good.

The LS90s in my office really sing now. I love how the Bass has tightened up and the much improved texture and control.

    Thanks !

    Glad you are happy!

I always thought it was a great unit. I actually bought it to get the SDI video output to feed my video scaler and upconvert SD DVDs. It was modified by JBVideo at a cost of over $1200. I'm guessing that it got some other tweaking to improve the sound, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

In any case, I'm happy that you are happy!

    Enjoy!!

tony, I can not believe how nice this player sounds.

My office rig is a hot rodded Pioneer SX-950, Pol LS90s and the Pioneer player. Sounds way better than it probably should.

I love how this setup sounds sounds, detailed yet engaging. The Pioneer has opened up the sound stage sis to side and front to back.

Glad you are happy. You may want to keep your eyes open for a Pio Elite AVR that can accept the i-link connection. Higher resolution, as I recall, and a pure digital connection. Any of the Elites with an 'i' in the model number will work. I used i-link with a VSX-56txi, and a VSX-84txsi with this unit. Loved it!

The VSX-56txi was an especially nice unit. No HDMI, but a great amp section. This unit got LOTS of great reviews and had a real following on AVSForum.com. I've seen them go for less than $300 on eBay, which makes it a candidate for a dedicated multi-channel music setup. (That's what I did.)
