Anyone watching the US Open?

It's been an entertaining first couple of days, should be a fun weekend. The course is playing tough, much more so than last year.
Several favorites have either shot themselves out of contention or missed the cut altogether (Watson, Mickelson, Donald, McIlroy, etc all have had rounds ranging from mediocre to really bad). Some 17 year old kid had the lead for a while before dropping 3 shots. Tiger has one one of the most unlucky days in recent memory today, but looks like he'll go into the weekend pretty high up on the leader board. I'm not counting Mickelson out yet even at 7 over, nice putt there on 18 to assure himself weekend play.
Hopefully we'll get lucky and this one will end with the same excitement as The Masters this year, but if the last two days are an indication we should have a fun weekend nonetheless.

I had to turn off the ESPN coverage with all the Woos-a-polooza. I ended up watching the US Open coverage which followed that Woods Mickelson Watson group throughout the day. Their coverage of Tiger was still a bit over the top but not near as bad as ESPeON. The NBC coverage is likely going to be over the top as well, may be on mute around here tomorrow. I still have my favorite handful of guys that I pull for and Tiger is among that group, but the coverage is absurd.
I think at least the US Open announcers though are at least starting to realize that he's not 'back'. He's not back to 2000 form and will never dominate like that again, it's probably safe to say that nobody will ever dominate golf again like he did during those years. People are expecting that and it's not going to happen. After the way the ball bounced today he's just lucky to still even be in the mix, lucky in that nobody else really shot a low score either. If he could control the length of his short irons he'd be several more strokes under par.
Mickelson had a somewhat similar day, seems like he missed every single fairway out there...by an average of about a yard. So many shots of his today, if they're a yard inside they're in the fairway. Bad breaks are to be expected now and then, but seems like those two guys got more than their fair share today. -
US Open? Had me thinking I was missing some tennis there for a second. Pssh, golf.

Golf is an "acquired" taste. Suffice it to say I have not yet "acquired" it. But I know a lot of people who enjoy the sport!

I agree as far as watching it as a non-player. Learning to play the game with a reasonable level of proficiency adds so much to the appreciation for the skill required to perform at the pro level, that watching it becomes enjoyable.
Playing it helps you understand that noone ever "masters" the game......HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I'm the same way with video games, card games, etc.: If the game is single-player, I'm not interested.
In golf the players are competing to get the best score, but they aren't really competing with each other--there's no interaction, no offense or defense. So really they're just all competing against the course simultaneously. IMO it'd be like having a bunch of people play solitaire simultaneously, trying to get the best score. Yawn. But to each their own. Some people like single-player games.

I don't think luck had anything to do with the players and this course. It's extremely tough to score below par no matter who you are. "Several more strokes under par" is just plain wishful thinking.Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

No interaction? They play in group of 2 or 3. Any of their opponents' shots can help or damage their mindset. It's definitely competing not only against oneself, against the course, but also against the opponents' pressure. It's got to be one of, if not the toughest game to play out there.Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

Well I don't think that comment is accurate because the whole field couldn't beat the course, not just him. Poor plays from everybody resulted from of the course's tough layout.Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

Terrible day for Tiger that last chip on 18 was hard to watch, furyk and McDowell both had excellent rounds, I imagine it'll come down to those two guys tomorrow.
