Long story short, this weekend my wife had her phone stolen while traveling to visit her sister in Miami. I used iCloud to trace the phone and send messages to return the phone. After they were ignored, we called the police and they jumped right on this since iCloud traced the phone to an exact address.

Police made an initial visit and were told nobody had travelled and they did not have the phone. The detective did not buy and it and put in a subpoena for the flight records and found the person that lived at the address taking the same flight...

They going to arrest him now to charge him with grand larceny!

The police were very helpful and I can't thank them enough for how proactive they were.

Just got off the phone with the police and they made the arrest and he admitted to Stealing the phone. I guess he trashed the phone once the police showed up the first time.

We will hear from the DA in a few weeks about the $650 in restitution I guess they want him to pay now.

No sim card and can't remove the battery... Pretty much as soon as you even turn the phone on, you're screwed if anyone is tracing it.

I guess he tried for three hours to get past the security code, then the battery just died.

Since my wife also had programs and business info on it for her company, I guess they are now getting their lawyers involved since he just tossed a phone containing sensitive information and trade secrets. Lol, this guy is going to have a bad week...

congrats to you guys and the cops.

BTW, a few weeks ago, i found a brand new white iphone sitting on top of the bananas at the grocery store.

Of course i immediately picked it up, looked around to see if anyone had that "where did i leave that" look.

Then took it to service desk, and by the time i got back to my cart, a lady and an ingles employee were scouring the produce area, i said your phone is at the ser. desk, and she said she had just bought it to replace the one she dropped into a glass of water.

Later, it occured to me, even if i was a scumbag thief, apple has installed some good tools for cops, looks like i was right.
