Surround Newb - Thinking Polk for New System - Need Opinions
I'm new here and wanted to say hi! I have a 1200 sq ft basement I'm using a 9x16 section to build a home theatre. I was thinking A3 as fronts, A6 for center and am not sure if I should be using the Pro 400 or 500 for sub. I'm currently using flat screen built in speakers and budget is a concern.
Do you think the 400 is enough for sub?
Thanks, Polk forum!

Also, with budget being a concer, is the csia4 ok for center?
Was also thinking of using the free atrium4 freebies Crutchfield is offering as rears. -
When you say your going to use a section, are you building walls and so on? How high is the ceiling going to be?
There are alot of variables to consider... -

Half wall behind the couch. Not much to the left and right (open). 15' from tv to couch and viewing zone about 7-9'
Wide.
I just discovered the eBay refurb store and am excited. -

Welcome to Club Polk!
Amulford is right above. The more info the better.
As far as the Sub, buy the biggest baddest that you can, probably the Pro 600 or (660 now). The same is true for the center. You've chosen well, there!
If you can't budget it for now, just wait till you can. Don't be impatient. Starting with some A3s up front and the larger center sets you up so you can move up the food chain to towers later and move the A3s to surround duty.
What are you going to be using as the amp? What receiver? 1200 sq. ft is a big space even if you try to define a smaller listening space!
The Polk ebay site is a great place to get the rest of your set up, items are pretty much "mint" condition and come with a nice warranty. Plus it's tough to beat those prices!
Enjoy!

The Polk Ebay store certainly is a good place to get refubished Polk speakers at about 25% off there normal price. In fact, I bought a pair of RTi A7 floorstanders off that site ... No cosmetic problems whatsoever and free shipping. Perfect in every way.
Just be advised ... Refurb speakers have a 2 year factory warranty vs the normal 5 year warranty

For somebody who requires Bookshelves, will the Rti A3 do a nice job? -

For a 9' x 16' area, you might be better served by using A5 towers for fronts and A1 bookshelf for rears.
I would think that even the smallest towers (A5) would be better suited for fronts than a set of bookshelf speakers.2-Channel Audio

Do you mean you don't have enough space for towers, because the A3s are pretty "deep" they are NOT a small bookshelf?
As far as bookshelf vs. towers. Of course towers are preferable. But if you can't swing that, where you MAKE up for it is with a big bad sub. If you let a NICE sub take up your LOW end with a lot of power and good bottom, yes, you can get away with bookshelves, for now or at least till the upgrade bug bites. lol
