hey guys,

i have an older apple tv with the internal hard drive and have read a lot of comments about how cool the sb is so i was wondering what is the difference between the 2. is it worth it to get one once you have the apple tv? i mean i use the apple tv as a music server everything ripped in lossless (wav).

i get the remote app on my ipad so i can use it without the tv on. and it seems that they are both basically a stream/music server gadget.

please enlighten me on this.

regards,

eduardo

If you have the Apple TV with the built in HDD and have your music stored on there and want it that way then the Apple TV is the way to go. With the SB you'll need your music stored on a computer (or NAS that will run the SB software). The SB is strictly a streamer, there is no storage built in.

The newer Apple TVs don't have a drive and stream over the air. I and several others here have found the streaming quality of even lossless files to not be as good. My SB, streaming the same file over the same network using the same external DAC, sounds significantly better than my Apple TV. If you have the first gen though and music on the ATV itself then this may not be the case for you.

The SB also has far more streaming sources that it can do, lots of online content whereas the ATV out of the box is fairly limited.
