Need to buy or borrow a very very cheap preamp, just need it to check out which MA500's don't work. The Denon integrated that i was going to use does not have pre/out main/in like I thought it did. local would be fine:mrgreen:

    use the CD player as source to check...I know GCD700 had variable output which can be hooked up to an amp...
    or 1/8" stereo to RCA connector from mp3 player would work too...
    or use a DVD player laying around

    Yeah, your Adcom should have varible outputs, I know my GDC-600 does. That'll work.

    Umm, i guess i be dumb..you guys are saying to just run a variable output cd player to the ma500??

    Yeah, that should work. Or as devani said, mp3 player with a mini to RCA cord.

    ...anything with a volume control and a RCA output, or a RCA adapter. Headphone jack out of a computer is another option.

    Well, i am going to be doing this testing in the garage so the computer is out, I guess i could also use the headphone jack out of the cd player also eh?

    If your CD player has RCA outs, why would you use the headphone jack? Is that the only way to control the volume?

    And just a quick FYI:

    Whatever variable volume device you choose to use, make sure the volume is all the way down before connecting it or playing any music... then start playing and increase the volume gradually.:wink:

    Will do, THAT much I do know after a rather unfortunate experience with some nice vintage Crown equipment:redface: Will be using an orphan Denon/Mission speaker for the testing...
