Well I thought I would treat myself to a new toy so I bought an Epson 5010. I was fortunate to view some 3D projectors on the weekend and have had the 5010 in my head since. I must say I am blown away by these machines for a 3D movie as it just seems way better than the theater. What strikes me most id how accurate the color is for 3D unlike my plasma in that mode.

I did get to see the jvc rs45 and the picture on it was the best ever but 3D sucked so thats the only reason I never went for that as the price was only 3K. I heard folks **** about the panasonic but when I viewed the 3D was just great and the 2D pic looked every bit as good as the epson 6010. The acer h9500bd was another great projector and had a really great popping pic but never got a 3D demo and that sucked because its supposed to have the best 3D out there

Well since my local dealer only has the 6010 in shop I just bought the 5010 online for way cheaper and no tax. UPS says it will get here monday so I will update with pics n stuff. I now have to shell out for 8 pairs of 3D glasses and a new fixed frame pj screen

Well the screen was not supposed to be here until Wednesday but it has come early. I thought the bars would have been 150" in length so it looks like these are going to be fastened in the middle. Amazon is the best for free shipping so you get all 166" screen delivered for only $990. Here is a link if anyone is interested

Wow, congrats on your PJ............please post more pics as you can. Looking forward in few months.....well actually next year to make my upgrade on my TV and due to the size on my HT, my best option is going with a PJ/Fixed Screen. So, please keep posting on your experience with this little project that you have in hands.

    Will do cr

You know next year will probably see the first line of 2k 4k pj's rolling off the assembly lines and 3D will be improved upon too. I should have waited till next year but the bug was biting me badly so I can always sell the epson next year for around $800 less than I got it for if 2k 4k is going cheap

I still think I am going to have to buy a 133" dalite high power for 3D if the 16:9 section of the 235:1 is not bright enough for 3D movies. I have a bunch of 3D titles but I really want to watch something that is shot in native 3D like ' Journey 2 bullcrap Island'

I have 6 pairs of PS3 3D glasses coming at only $56 a pair for mostly my wife and her friends but for me I bough the higher quality epson brand. They are a little spendy in comparison but the quality and color accuracy is best with them. The epson glasses are on the chunky side, here's a pic of them next to my lg glasses that I use for my plasma. I wish the lg glasses worked but they dont have the 3mdi standard like the ps3, xpand , panasonic and monster vision's all have today

The epson's are on the left and feels like they are twice as heavy but they have less tint than the LG

    @ polkfarmboy

If indeed you are going to sell it next year, please don't forget to touch base with me. Here is an old pic of my HT setup and you can see why I need to upgrade my screen.

I bet those RTI's and sub just hammer out the bass during a movie

UPS stiffed me on the delivery today and said they came to my house at 1pm but I was home and they left no sticker either. I had to drive all the way across town to the depot and back to get it home or wait till tomorrow. Well this thang is chunky and big, here is a pic of it next to my panny 200ax that I use for gaming

Wow...........it is huge and looks sexy!

Sorry to hear that you didn't have the chance to give it a try today. But, at least it is finally safe at home.

Yeah the combination of the RTi A9s with the SVS PB-12 Plus was great. I said "was" great, due to I had to sold my subwoofer....:o(

But, now I have a PB13-Ultra and if everything works well.......the second Ultra should arrive this Wednesday.

Well, now you know why I don't have funds to purchase more stuff during 2012. But, in 2013 it will be a different story.....;o)

So, how is everything doing with you and your new projector?

Could you please describe the steps required to project 2.35:1 material out of your new PJ?

    Thanks!

    Hi

I just overshoot the the black bars above and below the screen. The blacks are at a point where you cant see them on the wall so it looks great. When I go back to 16:9 aspect I just zoom in and it fills that portion of the screen to the equivalent of a 133". The screen was real easy to assemble and 3 little brackets hold it up. I have to say that its awesome when its snowing in my room and 3D is just blindingly bright. I watched hugo and could not imagine it not being in 3d, there was no ghosting or crosstalk at any point. The 480hz panels in the 5010 give me a flicker free image and that makes you forget the glasses are actually on, its very stable and color accurate. These new panels they use seem to make motion more smooth and natural in 24 fps mode in 2d. I have to say that the blacks are not as good as many pro reviews have stated, I think it got more praise for 2D than it deserves but all in its a great picture and 3D adds alot of fun for friends and family

I had a whole bunch of people over on the weekend and they were just blown away when I gave them some of my favorite demo's. I will be getting a new darker carpet put in so it should help with the contrast even more. I would recommend the 235:5 without a anamorphic lens to anyone, there is just something really majestic about the look of a movie on it and more immersion due to the absence of those black bars during a movie. My pj is plenty bright in cinema mode to fill this whole screen but it will loose half the brightness at some point. By the time the projector dims then I will bring in a anamorphic lens but until then I will just enjoy it

Glad to hear that you are happy with the 5010. Just one thing that I'm not 100% clear on the black bars (top and bottom), is your wall painted on a dark color? In my case my wall (where I'm planning on installing the screen) is painted on a beige color. So, if I have to overflow the image to push the black bars out of the screen, then I should see them on the walls (see my post #6, so you can have a better idea on my question/concern).

Do you mind to share a pic of your front stage? I am wondering how your screen looks? By the way, how does the projector perform with the lights on?

My room has two windows on the left hand (they don't hit directly the screen), but I'm wondering if it is bright enough to watch TV/movies during the day.

    Sorry for all the questions!

I have darker grayish with a blue/green stripy tint on the walls and I think with your walls you should be good when the lights are out. I think the blacks would fade to total black and not be a distraction at all. As I mentioned in my previous post I am only using the lowest brightness setting 'cinema' and its filling the entire screen. Any sunlight that is stray in your room is not even going to be an issue with the Epson as the dynamic settings are blinding. When you think that just the native contrast is the same as the jvc rs1 then your not only going to get a bright image but also a very punchy dynamically contrasted one. I will get a snap shot to you of everything up and running. My speakers barely have room to breath because of how close to the side walls they are with the screen. I have Martin Logans so I have to pull them way out in use so I can pull them away from the side walls and they are not in my line of site but thats a good thing for the sound but bad for the wife

I love answering any questions I am able to so don't hesitate to ever as me anything. What size of screen where you thinking of going for?

Thanks! Looking forward to have a pick on your setup.

I am thinking on a 106" fixed screen. Something like this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Screens-R115WH1-WIDE-ezFrame-Projection/dp/B001EHBT44/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340244177&sr=8-1&keywords=2.35%3A1+screen

I think it is similar to the one that you are currently using, but way smaller!

Oh, one more question (sorry!) when you have to adjust the formats (2.35:1 to 16:9 aspect), can you do that using your remote control? Or, do you have to manually do it at the PJ?

Yes thats the same as the one I have. If you are going smaller then there is these cool screen from monoprice that are multiformat electric deals. It basically masks the screen for 235 then retracts to 16:9, I dont know what the material is like but such a screen usually costs around 5K

Wow, that screen looks pretty cool. I will check it out directly at the Monoprice website. Thanks a lot for the tip.
