What hz setting for rti a5???
I have an onkyo tx-nr609 , rti a5 front, csi a4 center, rti a1 rear, psw10 sub... I used the audesey calibration and it keeps setting my fronts and center @ 40hz- rears @ 80hz , sub @ 80hz... Is that the best setting for that setup or should i do 80hz for fr and center and 120 for rear ????
AVR: PIONEER ELITE SC-55, FRONT: RTI A7's, CENTER: CSI A4, REAR: RTI A1's, SUB: DSW550wi, TV: SAMSUNG UN55C8000 , ETHEREAL: SUPER OUTLET.

You do NOT want to go above 80hz on the surrounds! 40 is probably too low for your fronts and definitely for the center. That center only hits 60hz (I believe).
What I would do is set "everything" at 80 hz (L/C/R/Surrounds) and see how that sounds. You want to stay under 100hz because above that the ear might be able to better localize the bass. Higher LFE setting for your fronts will also allow the Onkyo to power them better since it won't have to strain with 40hz frequencies which take more power to reproduce loudly and are better left for your sub.

Sub needs to be set at 120hz. Do you have the sub hooked up with a single RCA cable and the switch set to LFE yes?AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Because the LFE stands for Low Frequency Effects. It is a seperate part of the audio track, and is specified for sounds from 1-120 hz. That setting is a low pass filter, it is not a crossover. So any sound above 80hz (wich you currently have it set to) will be lossed. It is a low pass filter so the sound is not re routed to your towers or any other speaker in your system. It is simply not played.
I was just wondering why it set your sub to 80hz. Almost like the knob on the sub was set to 80, and since it didnt hear anything above 80 that is what it set it to. Your subs upper 3db point is 160hz so it is capable of playing higher than the 80hz that it set your onkyo to.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

I like them a lot and would only trade them for some 9's. When you go with an external amp they really start to come alive in the low end.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Just because the sub says it will play up to 160hz does not mean it will sound good set like that. Besides the sub being set above 80hz will start to sound localized and that is the last thing you want to do with a sub.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

And I have seen it try to set cheep bookshelf speakers to full range. Just because it tell you something don't mean it's a good setting. By setting the sub at 120hz the sound can be located by the ears and the job of the sub is produce the lfe and blend in. Unless it is up front with the rest of the speakers where it would sound like the mains are making the bass I would not recommended it.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

I wouldn't set a sub above 100hz I keep mine at 80hz.
Rears set at 80hz, Fronts set Full Range and Center set to 80Hz. -
Set it to what ever you want but you will be missing out on LFE from what ever you set it at to 120hz because it is a Low Pass Filter not a crossover.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
