I'd suggest three things right off the bat. Obtain a new stylus or cart./stylus-Make certain the tracking weight is dead on and lastly, get a Spin Clean LP cleaning system. There's nothin' like the knowledge that yer runnin' a brand new "needle". Have fun !!!!

Some give b&o tts a bad rap. Heck, some give b&o in general a bad rap... but their turntables were actually generally quite good. Their minimalist, ultra low mass philosophy was abetted by the use (for better or worse) of a proprietary cartridge mount. Most of their MMC ("moving micro cross", actually moving iron -a la Grado) cartridges are very good;the best of them (e.g., the MMC-2) were excellent. SoundSmith sells modern "reproductions" albeit at fairly high prices. The stylus on your RX-2's cartridge is, unfortunately, not replaceable.
I am pleased to own a TX-2 (same vintage as the RX-2, but with the linear tracking arm). It's a bit flimsily constructed, but it works smoothly and flawlessly.

Congrats on the score. The Heresies are worth the price you paid alone. I second getting a Spin Clean.

Congrats !
I use this method.
If you need a surfactant I have plenty.

I see you went with it, congrats! mhardy echoed my sentiments via PM. My concern was the proprietary cartridge also. A good deal would offset that.
For dry brush I use one of these carbon fiber brushes. They are rebadged and sold under other brand names. They got a bad rap due to brush fibers falling out. A bad lot or production run, can't recall. Mine has never shed fibers.
~ $20 - $25.

A bit higher priced one I also have is the Hunt EDA. ($30 here). It has a felt pad between the two rows of fibers.

After cleaning the record, insert it in a good rice paper sleeve. I like MFSL, ~ $20 for 50 sleeves, discounts for multiple 50 pack purchases. After play, do a dry brush while the platter spins down and put it back in the sleeve.

speaking of the b&0 RX and RX-2... there was just a post to this thread at AK; probably worth a look (some potentially useful links therein): http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=447114

You've been busy, busy, busy. Nice pick up! B&O, always interesting, innovative and usually overpriced (very special market there). But I'd believe mhardy on the TTs.
If your needle has not been replaced in two years, then I would agree, you need a new one. The TT guys over at AK use microscopes to check out their needles (some rarefied stuff there!). And almost none of them would run a cartridge over more than 300 hours, if that? That's like 2 hours a day for 6 months or (most probably LESS). And some, only 100 hours before a new stylus goes in?
In any case. Putting a new needle in there shouldn't hurt. I, myself, am guilty, picked up an old LAB TT a while back and haven't changed the needle yet (naughty, naughty!). Sounds OK, but I'm probably ruining the surface of a number of GW LPs. Not a terrible thing since those surfaces are already compromised.
Need to splurge for a 30 dollar needle (standard replacement for the old Shure cart that's on the TT).
Have fun!

30 bucks for a needle is cheap !! One of my ATs is $95 or so, IIRC! Which Shure are you running ?
-
Yeah I know, it's really not that much. I still have the original Realistic/Shure R47EDT in place (probably replace it later...but it's still seems to be OK for now?). Nothing special, just part of a vintage Realistic system I'm piecing together for nostalgic reasons:

^ which Lab have you got cnh? I've got a Lab 440 and a 500 and like them both. (Sorry to derail the thread)
Back on topic to the OP-- I have a B & O RX2 as well. Nice little minimalist design table. Unfortuately my cartridge has a bad left channel so it's in storage for now. They are a unique item for sure. My father had a 4200 model w/ linear tracking arm growing up and it was a thing of beauty and what prompted me to buy the RX. The bad as others have mentioned is that getting replacement needles is quite expensive. For the $ their is better out there with easier to obtain parts, but if its in good working order you should be pleased.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
Have you by any chance got any xtra parts for the 500 ? I can't find the screw in retainer for the counterweight anywhere. Without that piece, the c'weight has to be WAY out at the very end of the tone arm to balance properly.

I have a LAB 395 and a guy on AK is selling me a LAB 440 for $15 if I pick it up. Probably replace the 395 with it.
Now back to the thread!

i have been getting tips on different cleaning and maintaining tips. i have not even loosened the screws from transporting it yet. wife has me busy this weekend. so im excited in cleaning it up (not that its dirty) but i want it to preform to its fullest..i hooked it to the marantz 2252 in our original living room as we walk into our home. i swung into goodwill yesterday and scored 8 more records @ .99 cents and it was kinda cool looking through all the vintage ones to find unscratched/unwarped scores. lol. so im hoping tonight to run my new toy through the marantz..i have not decided on the heresys at this point. there much different then the rta15TL's which were too big for this system.(but what a speaker) and the rti8 i have just werent it also..thank you for all the tips. i enjoy the feedback and will use them....i will update how it works later......

Klipsch pretty much need tubes. They tend to be bright otherwise. I would suspect that that might be true even on a Marantz?
I've heard those speakers on various SS amps and they just sound "thinner" than they should IMHO. That Jolida FX that was on sale here would be nice, because those speakers are terribly efficient?

ahem. "Pretty much" :-P
Actually,it's been oft opined that the "heritage" Klipsch speakers (Heresy, Cornwall, LaScala, Belle, K-horn) work well when powered by the (nominal) 25 wpc, twin powered harman/kardon hk430.
(and I know the hk430 pairs well with vintage Polks...)
