I have an opportunity to purchase
rt800 at 150
rt55 at 175

They seem overpriced?

I have seen these two speakers compared before. Does anyone have any experience with these models?

I have both speakers. The RT55 is a huge bookself speaker. It is one of the best bookself speakers Polk has made. That is why it is priced higher than the RT800. The RT800 is a good speaker for HT use. Not the best for 2 channel but when used as mains in an all RT home theater setup it is excellent. Both prices are fair depending on condition. If you found a CS400 for a center and bought both sets of speakers you would have a nice HT 5.1 setup. Something to think about. In my one HT setup I stacked RT55's on top of the RT800's for mains. For me they sound excellent together.
Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9

2 different owners actually. I assumed they were overpriced because I missed a pair of rt800 for the ridiculous price of $75....

I am interested in stacking could you explain? Do you mean fronts and heights?

I literally have my RT55's sitting on top of my RT800's. I just A/B them with my receiver. The RT55's are a little wider and deeper than the RT800's but how I have them position in my room it doesn't look to noticable. Using the two together plus a CS1000 really took the system to another level.

If they are in good condition the prices are very much in line. I own a pair of RT55is and would not sell them for $175...of course they are in pristine condition.
