What AVR will work for me?

Hello,

I am new Polk forum member but long time Polk Audio fan. I have owned and loved my RTI 10's for the past couple years but have just upgraded to RTI A9's.

My problem is that I want to purchase a new AVR for the A9's, but I can?t find an AVR or unsure what AVR would power these power hungry A9's. I do have a older Carver 2 channel amp (Model M 1.0t) which should power the A9's fine. One of the important features I want in an AVR is Airplay, but so far I am unable to find a AVR that has Airplay as well as RCA pre-outs for my Carver amp. I have been looking at the Pioneer VSX-1122-K which does have RCA pre-out but it sounds like the RCA outputs are meant for another zone (its labeled Zone 2) and if that is the case the Pioneer tech support told me the RCA output would be fixed. I want to be able to control my volume via my remote control or Ipad. Is there anyone out there that can help me out? Thanks!

I would highly recommend Pioneer, and particularly the SC series. The new models have AirPlay and they will all have preamp outputs for the carver. I would bi-amp those A9s using the carver to power the lows and the amps in the AVR to power the highs.

    Thanks for the response Assimilated.

I have looked into the Pioneer Elite SC-55, which is a very nice AVR but I'd prefer not to spend that amount of cash. I will spend that amount if I must but prefer to spend around the $600.00 range. Just curious, if i was to purchase the SC-55 (140 watts/channel) would even need the Carver amp? Thanks.

I have the SC-35 and Rti12's which are very similar. I think it powers them just fine for HT, but the Carver would do a better job than you'll get from an AVR.

Honestly, if my two options were spending less on an AVR and pairing it with the Carver amp or selling the Carver and using that money to get the SC I'd go with the latter. The ICE amps in the SC series are THAT good. That SC would easily power your speakers and you could always add another amp down the road if you wanted.

If it's still out of budget though maybe someone else will chime in with an idea, I'm not aware of anything in that price range that offers what you want.

Save yourself buyers remorse and get the SC. You'll be glad you did.
