My Lsi15's are beginning to break in. A few weeks ago they went from sounding small and compact to becoming very full sounding. I thought I had run across a few discs that just really sounded good but I was wrong. They almost overnight turned into something new. Why not burn in or break in your production speakers. Mine are not new and with the short play time I give them it has taken over six months. Let me say this, why not at least break in the ones to be used by the stores for demos? I'm sure your guru's can come up with the procedure which would not take very long...

Hehe, I have seen 'bouncing' woofers 'bounce' across the Polk Factory floor. Does that answer that one?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Chuck, have you listen the demo cd that Frank has? you'll be amazed on 15's ability to dig down...I am glad you start enjoying your 15.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Not really. I remember that but seriously, you could probably break in a new set of drivers in a pressure room of some sort. Picture this, 4 18" subs pressurising a small room full of polks with some particular freq range. Who knows, maybe the polks are already boxed up and every thing. I'm just a little annoyed because I don't abuse my speaks in any way so it takes forever for break-in. Seriously, I bought them used and I had them going for six months and they just broke in? I almost sold them because they were sounding so lame. I'm pretty sure that is why they were sold to me so cheap. Once they started opening up I started to feel like I had something. I'm just saying, why can't this be automated.

Well, if they decide to do this, I'll apply for the job position :-D. I'll break 'em in REAL good.
I mean... could you imagine, say, 10 pair of LSi speakers hooked up to 10 clean amps, connected to play, ALL AT ONCE? Tee hee heeLudicrous gibs! -
Polk has a flame room. Now that would be fun to work in, blowing up speakers for a living. To see how much juice they can really chew! Hmmmm, AWESOME! Where do I subscribe!
PS: Polk REALLY does have a 'flame' room.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
How many beers did it take to fully open them up/break them in?
-
Lets see, 3 per night and 4 nights a week over about 6 months and they are not fully there yet.
That would be 288 beers. 300 by the time they fully open up.
Luckily I still have a pair of 9's and a center left to break in. I'm thinking under 1000 beers all told for the complete system!

Man, that's a long time.
It took 4 days for my new power cord to settle down. It's a demo, already burned in. After having it for roughly 2 weeks, I coilled it up (big mistake) and brought back to the store only to take it back home. When I plugged it back in, took another 4 days to sound proper again. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?
You should put a tuner on the others LSI's and let them break in while you're gone.SDA-2a, Anthem Pre-2L, Anthem Amp 1, MF A324 DAC, Rotel RCD1070
Senn HD650 Cardas, Mapletree Audio Ear+ HD2, Kimber KS1030, Bel Canto DAC2, M-Audio Transit, Laptop. -
I assume it is taking so long because I don't play them loud. I guess the speakers need to be flexed awhile to break in. This is the first new set I've ever had. All my others were 10+ year old sda's when I got them. Also, most of my gear is broken in by the time I buy used.

My speakers sound the same as they did when I first plugged them up, the only difference I have changed is room acoustics and positioning, and maybe my ears has adjusted to the sound all together, but overall, I am sure in realtime they sound the same in all ways....- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. They probably broke in rather quickly running them at 125db+

Nah, not until recently have I broke 98db. I ran them 98db the first month, just now have I started to venture into the 100, 102db range (for short periods of time)- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
