Dang, I was hoping he would be able to pull through. I'm glad I got to see him solo and with friends just a few weeks ago at Merlefest, he seemed to be in pretty good shape for how old he was. Next years fest is going to be a sad one without him, R.I.P. Doc...

"Will the Circle Be Unbroken" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and friends (oh what friends!) was the first album I ever heard with Doc Watson on it. Man he had a distinctive style.

Some great music on that double album. The outtakes and between the songs banter are interesting. Some of the old country guys, Roy Acuff in particular, are pretty funny the way they admonish the NGDB to maintain a steady tempo. You get the feeling they didn't think a lot of those young'uns!

My favorite Doc album is Memories; plays a lot of the traditional stuff he cut his teeth on.

Cody - You think they'll go through with Merlefest next year? If they do, man, there won't be a dry eye in the house.

It will go on, next year is going to be tough, but I expect that they will try and put on something special. I know quite a few of the people who make the event happen, this year was the 25th year, and they we're all saying they would like to see it go on another 25. Wont be the same though without Doc though...

I coudn't believe my first Merlefest of how big of a draw Doc was, every year. Doc's music really got me into bluegrass and folk music, and its now mostly what I play around the house. SO much good bluegrass out there to be discovered.
