Happy 75th anniversary, Golden Gate Bridge!

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. Unlike the 50th anniversary, when 300,000 people were celebrating on the bridge (which caused the middle of the bridge to "sag" 7 feet), no pedestrians were allowed this time around.

Still, we still got in some celebrations of this special occasion.

    wow...great pictures.. the wife and I are heading out to San Francisco and Napa Valley this week... any idea if the Nimitz will still be the bay this week?

    Its hard to recommend which way to go not knowing what you enjoy.From Napa if you go to the north from Bodega Bay to Mendocino the drive is beautiful.The wife and I just got back from there,had a great time.Just my 2 cents.Dan

    It's older by 6 months and carries much more traffic, yet I don't remember people celebrating the 75th anniversary of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge....

    Wow! Nice looking bridge. While smaller in size and scale, there's something that really flows in the design of the Mackinac Bridge.

    Btw, the new eastern span of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge will open next year. In the photo below, the old span (the one that had a portion collapsed in the 1989 SF earthquake) is on the left, with the new span under construction.

    Interesting story on how it was built. And if you can walk across it, looking thru the grates to the water below is something to see.
