More "new to me" old stuff

Ran across an ad this week from a guy who wanted to unload his stereo equipment from the 80s. He hasn't used it in a while and it had been boxed up. What caught my eye first was the old Yamaha gear. It ain't for everybody - some like it, others don't... While researching it, I actually found an old thread here where H9 referred to it as a "boat anchor" LOL! Bought it anyhow, 'cause I really enjoy the Yamaha sound! I'm very pleased with the physical condition of these. Unfortunately, I probably won't be doing any real testing for a few days, however, it does seem to power up!

Here's the M-80 power amp and the C-80 control amp (pre-amp):

Next is what might turn out to be the real gem here - a pair of JBL L112, 3-way (large) "bookshelf" speakers (55 lbs ea!). These were evidently their TOTL in the early to mid 80s. These are unplayable at the moment, due to the woofer surrounds being MIA. I've never refoamed a speaker before, but it looks easy enough. At least there are plenty of kits available out there for these. A few scratches on the tops of the cabinets, but I'll decide once I hear them after the refoam just how far I want to go in restoring these. Basically, a fun little project.

Finally, a couple of pieces that I put to use right away in my garage. I'd been looking for an AM/FM tuner to connect to my Pioneer integrated in the garage system, so his little Yammie T-33 did the trick. Only reason is so I can pull in the O's games while out in the garage!

Also, this guy's ad mentioned a Sansui Audio Timer, model AT-700, and I really didn't have a clue what it was until I saw it. Yeah, it can turn things on and off, but what I really got for was to use it for its amazing clock function!! Actually, I didn't even buy it. When I said I'd take the other stuff, he just threw this in, I guess since I apparently couldn't hide my excitement about it...

Thanks Charlie - Yeah, the more I read up on them, the more excited I am to hear them. I'm sure they're no audiophile's dream, but I'm thinking they're going to be fun.

Yeah, Duh! A free Sansui CLOCK! I also like the Sansui sound, but I think it might take some burn-in time to get used to this.

Nice score! I think I'm one of the few around here who actually "likes" old JBLs. I have a pair of L80ts which I often run with the Jolida below and they sound great! I believe, yours are an older monitor by one generation where as mine are really a home version of the 4410 studios (which was one nice three way monitor!).

    Enjoy!
