...as soon as the wife leaves the house (w/ or w/o the kids), you literally run over to your HT, drop in a DVD (or CD), and crank it just so you can take advantage of the [loud] quality sound without hearing...

CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN, PLEASE?!!! ;)

All the time. Another trick is to turn the movie up a notch or two every once in a while until it gets to an "acceptable" volume. She won't notice unless your AVR gives you away.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

yup, that's exactly what I do...they would come home and my son would muted them, and tune the channel back to Nick's Sponge Bob...what can I say!
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Every 15 minutes, if you raise the volume 1 click, your families ears will slightly adapt to the new volume, and will not realize it is actually louder. Works for me.....

The location of my HT and it's sound containment properties allows me great volume w/o disturbing others in the house. So, no, I don't do that.

    Peace Out~:D

What REALLY pisses her off is when she comes home and the kids are watching Monsters Inc or Lilo and Stitch at reference level. They love it! She's convinced they're gonna be deaf:D

    Not in this house.

    A. Reason for a separate 'cave'.

    2. She will sit down and listen with me.

    D. She already has the rig(s) up and running when I get home.

The shame - (its like running for the **** when your parents leave) I feel sorry for you guys - considering going from the parents house and into the same situation years later. Has anyone here have a wife or girlfreind that is into and supports the HT life? Try to marry someone with common interest perhaps.
My girlfriend supports and has paided for half of my sickness. And is VERY knowledgeable for a chick. See clowns guys all the time for giving stupid info or bragging about thier setups. She can now pretty much put together and calibrate a HT system with no problem. Pretty cool anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do that, but it's just my dad and I in the house, so he's usually pretty cool about cranking it up. In fact, sometimes he joins me with his system downstairs. However, when he leaves the house, it does get turned up another tick or two. :-)

He always has to re-align the pictures on the wall, though, so it's no big secret...

I had that problem with my EX. That's one of the many reasons she's my EX. My new fiance is a doll, loves jammin to loud rock 'n roll, loves riding on the motorcycle, and bought some accessories for my Ar15...It don't get no better.

Wife has no problems with volume levels. Earlier this year we were looking at a 42" 16:9 t.v. Mitsu. and my wife suggested going for the 48" instead. Couldn't say no to that.

And I thought this thread was going to be about advanced masturbation techniques.

    What a huge let down.
