Well hopefully who ever got them intends to enjoy them and not try to turn around and flip them.

So I have a opportunity locally pop up for the speakers below. Seller is orginal owner and said they are SDA-1 which I think is the orginal model. What do people think and what is a fair price. Would I better off waiting for a later model? Thanks.

Those are 1C's. Properly modded and powered they would be a good place to get started. Would the SRS 2's and larger SDA's be a better fit for your mega room? More than likely, but the 1C's can hold their own in most places.

Well I had this pair in my sights, but it didn't happen. I gave them a listen and the seller was firm on his price and after giving it a day I told him I was going to pass and take a look at another pair that showed up in my area. Well he dropped his price to what I had in mind and due to some travel I set the expectation I wouldn't be able to pick them up till this weekend. He was cool with it and we were both looking forward to the sale. Well last night the guy emails me that he is sorry, but he ended up selling them to someone else. Bummer, but what are you going to do.

That stinks but maybe its for a good reason. You might be able to get a better deal on another pair or a pair that fits your room properly will show up.

Thats how it happened for me after a number of failed attempts to buy some SDA's on CL. All of the sudden, I got a line on some modded 1c's in the town next to mine and I was fortunate that those other deals fell through.

Yeah it was too bad. The seller was a really nice guy and didn't seem like the kind that would go back on his word, and while it would have been hard to do it if he would have told me he couldn't wait and had to get them out of his house I would have figured it out. Anytime I have done CL deals as a seller I always gave the first interested party a first refusal if someone comes around with a better offer. A pair of studio's are for sale in my area so if they are still around this weekend when I get home I will go take a look. Otherwise I will just have to keep enjoying my fully modded RTA's.

If a good deal pop up on Craigslist you can't wait around debating, you have to jump on them right away. Those studio's are a great deal. I'd jump on them today.

I don't think me waiting was the issue. It was I took the seller for his word. I plan on looking at the studios but don't get back into town till Friday night. If they are still there this weekend I will pick them up.

Well I took a look at some studio's from a local seller and here is what I came away with.

    -No IC cable
-The left channel does not play as loud as the right.
-The left speaker's black binding post is snapped.
    -No consecative serial numbers
    -Small nicks and scratchs
-Drivers seem to be ok. They all seem to be moving while playing.
    -No major air leaks.

The guy admitted to me that for long time they were his party speakers so I am sure they have been run hard.

I would pass unless he is selling them for dirt cheap and you feel like spending some time fixing them up. Chances are, if they were his party speakers, they need to be completely redone..

    Good luck with the search

Well I have offically joined the SDA owners club. Picked them up at a great price mainly because the guy really had no use for them and the left speaker would not play as loud as the right. Did a quick check and turns out one of the connectors had come loose to the driver. Popped off the PR and swapped out the snapped binding post as well. Here is what is on my to do list.

    -Update XO's and IC Cable.
    -Dynamat drivers
    -Sonic Barrier in cabinets.
    -Replace tweeters.

Some pictures for all to enjoy.

Now I need to figure out what to do with my RTA's. Anyone in the Milwaukee area looking for a pair?

Ok Sonic Barrier and Dynamat has been ordered. XO's have been boxed up and off to VR3 in the morning. Next on the list is to call Polk and get the replacement tweeters. I was late to the party for Larry's rings so that will have to wait.

Dynamat showed up today and Sonic Barrier should be here tomorrow. I wanted to double check on the Sonic Barrier placement for those who have used it. Is the idea to do the cabinets above the PR? Do you still use the orginal fill? When I did my RTA's I did the entire inside, but not sure this was right.

Where did you get the items you mentioned? What's a PR? Sorry but I am new to the modding business, had my 1C since 12/11 and 2.3Tls since 89

Only place sonic barrier above the PR (passive radiator). But. . . . .sonic barrier is probably not going to be as effective as Black Hole or some of the other higher tech materials.

Re: original fill, yes put the polyfill back where it was, i.e. behind the MW's.

Be sure and post impressions on how your speakers sound before and after these mods - inquiring minds want to know

Sonic Barrier was purchaed from Parts Express and the Dynamat was bought from Amazon. There is another recent thread about Dynamating that talks about it. I can't believe the amound I got on Amazon compared to my first time around buying it from Best Buy.

Won't be able to do any before impressions as these were in need of work and I took them apart right away and started the process. I will be able to give some thoughts on how they sound compared to my RTA-12C that I did some work on.

I do have question about Deoxit. Does any use the gold for their connectors?

Oh.... ok...... PR is the "fluid coupled passive radiator" where do you store the fluid when you do the upgrades?

1/2 thick on the Sonic Barrier? And yea Best Buy it costs a lot to keep the lights on. Someone. not me. has to pay for it and the convenience.
