I've got a 5 year old Toshiba Satelite, that's still operational(knock on wood), but I'd like to semi-retire it, for a back-up/ work laptop.
Ive got GC's to BB, so I'm looking at 17" HP's and Toshibas. Unfortunately, they don't carry Lenovos.
Primary use will be entertainment(YT), and surfing.
I'm not looking for anything supercharged, just reliable, and will last as good as this one.
What say you:question:
TIA

Yes I just discovered I hit the S & not the D:redface:

We've got both Toshibas and HPs. The one thing that has irritated me about Toshiba (and many other makers too) lately is that they refuse to put out a lower-end laptop that doesn't have the numeric keypad on it. To me, that's clumsy on a laptop because it pushes everything off center, and 99% of people have little to no need for it.

My 17" Toshiba has the num keypad, but I use it as a desktop replacement and use a regular keyboard hooked up to it via USB. We'd had good luck with Toshibas, but when my wife was in need of a new laptop (that she actually uses on her lap!) we couldn't find a Toshiba without that keypad. So, that's why we now have an HP in the house.

Actually, I like the number keypad. I especially like the "+" and "*" without having to hit the shift key. It is weird, tho, to go to another laptop and not be off center, like I am used to with the Tosh.

I'm sure some others do too. I just wish they gave you a choice -- you know, some models with, some without. Right now, a lot more have it than don't, and it seems to depend on the maker.

When we were looking, we passed on a Toshiba probably 3 or 4 times due to the keypad.

We ended up getting a Sony Vaio. Not sure if they're available at BB, but we love ours. I haven't had it for a long time so I can't accurately comment on longevity. It has the num pad on the side. It doens't bother me at all.

Ended up buying an HP. It has an AMD quad core, the Toshy just had a dual, for the same price.
I can't believe they don't include recovery discs anymore. I don't even know if I have any blank cd's in the house?
