Hi I got two monitor 70 for fronts 2 klipsch bookshelf s6 or sides and 2 Martin Logan monitor 10 for rears. Just wondering which center channel will be good. The csi a4 or csi a6? I'm also running it with my pioneer vsx 1020k. Really need help which one would work best. Thanks!

Hello Clyton and welcome aboard

You certainly have an array of speakers there, they all sound like good ones.

As far as your front three go (left main, center speaker and right main), a really good rule of thumb is to keep them in a matching series, so the timbre matches and therefore the sonic presence is seamless.

For the Monitor 70's, a good match would be the CS2 or CS20.

The CSiA4 and 6 work best with the RTi and RTiA series.

I've owned the Monitor 70's Series II and loved them a lot. The more power I fed them (with external amplifiers), the better they sounded.

New Egg has Polk speakers on sale all the time, you can usually get a pretty good deal as you keep an eye out for the sales.

I hope this helps! Welcome again, happy hunting!

Hi Geoff! Thank you for your reply. I was wanting the cs series. Unfortunately I'm only able to purchase either the a4 or the a6 because I have a pretty big gift card at the store I'm shopping at. What would work best with the 70's? Thank you again with your input . One more question. I was deciding on either the psw 111 or the 125. Any advice in which one?

CS2 would be a great match for the 70's. As far as subs go, I'd recommend saving till you can afford something in the 500-1000 range from some of the internet direct retailers such as Epic, HSU, and just get a cheapie sub for home theater till you can afford a good one.

External amps do only one thing- amplify the signal to power your speakers. Most AVR's have internal amps but the avail power is rarely equal to a dedicated 2-5 channel seperate amp. AVR's are a compromise doing many things at once- sound, video, processing of surround signals, equalization of your room ect.. so they are great at what they do in general but lack a certain authoritative finesse when it comes to making your speakers come alive.

The Monitor 70's love power, so external amps can provide this better than a multi ch AVR which usually shows ideal specs w/ 2 ch driven only and in a real world application those figures are usually quite lower if all 5 channels are being used such as with movies.

Clyton- just reread your post. If you have to pick between the 2 due to gift card issues. Go with the larger A6. Hopefully your Pioneer's room equalization program MCC or something (I forget their terminology) will help tone down some of the difference in the two different series of speakers for your front stage and also the differant brand all together for your surrounds- which really are not as important to match tonally as your front 3 are.

Tnhndyman- Thank you for your reply as well. You answered what I needed to know. My friend said a sub isn't the biggest deal. Is it pretty important to have a real good sub?

With that store certificate to spend get the PSW 111 nice little sub. I have one it punches tight and worth the money, then save up for another one if you feel you need to. I ran a cs10 center with my RTIA5's and it sounded ok but I got the matching CSIA4 and it did make a difference, but if you have to spend that certificate in that store get the CSIA6, then trade or sell it for a CS20.

There you have it. It looks like most of your questions got answered.

When I had my 70's and CS2, I usually had to bump up the center a bit from what audessy set it at. It couldn't quite keep up with the 70's.

Going with the CSiA6, you'll have none of those problems. The A6 is an awesome center speaker and will do your 70's proud.

I was powering my 70's with a 200 watt per channel amp, when I tried them on a 300 watt per channel amp just before I sold them, I thought they sounded so good, I was sorry to see them go.

That's interesting. I found that simply lowering the crossover point for the CS2 on the AVR solved that problem since they can actually, honestly, reach to 60hz.

I guess I should have tried that, my AVR always set mine to 40hz and that's where I left it each time. I think I bumped it to 50 and then jumped to 70 but never liked the sound.

40hz sounded good to me, I just had to bump the vol level in the AVR.

Sorry to hear about your roommate; Oxycodone. I have the same roommate. Acquired mine form an Air Force injury, yep, my n Oxy, best buds.

Thank you everyone for our help. One last thing promise guys lol. I'm actually waiting on my Martin Logan motion 10's for my rears brand new. Should I return hose and get another 2 more monitor 70's for the same price instead? Only thing is the 70's are used. What do you think?

Actually, just for rears, you could consider the monitor 30, that would more than adequate, but, if you want to go bigger, the monitor 40 would do.

Or, you could use the Klipsch for rears and use M40's for side surrounds.

70's for fronts, M40's for side surrounds and Klipsch for rears.

Well guess its done now. My wife bought me the m70 while I was at work. I ended up putting those as my sides. Should I lower the volume on those so it's more balanced or leave it the same as the fronts?

If your receiver has an auto calibration, let it do the job for you and then you can tweak it for you if you want or need to.
