Every now and then the Everly's or the Four Seasons find their way into the rotation. I listen to music sometimes to remember those that have passed on. Memorial Day will be a heavy rotation of Glenn Miller, Andrews Sisters, and the other Big Band greats. It would be another twenty years before I would be born, but this music puts me in touch with my grandfathers, and my stepdad.
My first records came from my mother's collection of Doo-Wop stuff she had when she was a teenager. (mom thankfully is still here) I played a few of them on Mother's Day. It is amazing just how powerful memories can be when they are accompanied by a soundtrack.:cool:The Gear... My father probably had the entire catalog of The Ink Spots. I didn't care for "If I Didn't Care" !!

Oddly, I don't dislike the song like I used to. Must have been the old man that I really disliked ! -
Love it. I love just about all of the music from the 50s-70s. I love all of the great harmonizations that were used by groups back then. People actually had vocal talent, good diction, and talent. Duke of Earl, Cara Mia, I loved Frank Sinatra & actually got to see him perform at the Worcester Centrum. I was probably one of the youngest ones there. Never saw so many blue haired old ladys huffin & puffin up the steps to their seats. I was suprised some of them didn't need oxygen!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Not sure if you'd call them Doo Wop because they go back so many more years, but I always liked The Mills Brothers and how their father stepped in to fill the spot after the one son died.

I love the genre, it gets played mostly on Saturday nights here at the hacienda. Most people don't remember that Sha Na Na played Woodstock, two things you probably would not put together. -
"Stumbled" across this and thought immediately of you and this thread !!

Great thread topic.
I probably have about 500 oldies/doo wop tunes that I listen to on a regular basis. Everything from the Dion & the Belmonts, The Earls, The Duprees, The Harptones, The Heartbeats, The Skyliners, The Cadillacs, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers right up to the Four Seasons and The Manhattan Transfer.
Doo Wop and group harmony music was/is a big part of the NJ/NY area. Lots of organizations looking to keep this type of music alive, even today.Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support
group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons gets lots of play on my system. I had the pleasure along with 100,000 other people squeezed into Government Center downtown to hear him at an oldies free concert.
That was the last time they held the concert in Gvt Center, the next year they moved the concerts over to the Esplanade! LOL. I'm glad I didn't know that I was in that big of a crowd in such a small space, I would have flipped my lid, I didn't find out until the next morning on the news.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
