adcom gda 600 vs gda 700?

Should there be a huge sound diff. Between these modles? A friend got a 600 and says my 700 ( on his system) blew away the 600 on his system. Is thier that much diff. Or could there be something wrong with his 600.

    I never noticed much difference as they are similar build wise. The 700 uses a different chipset for HDCD decoding and I believe the clock is a little newer. They are very similar and I have owned both and I actually choose the 600. A modded 600 is at another level. The achilles heal in both units are the outdated op-amps and coupling caps as well as possible weak power supply caps now that the units have some age.

    Get the 600 and take the difference in cost between the 700 and mod the 600.

    The 600 is my buddys unit. I have the 700 and im very pleased with it.it is however my first outboard dac. i hardly listened to cd before i got the 700 now. I have bought at least 15 cds in the last month! Its a whole new ballgame! Is there a mod for the 700? I read the 600 mod. Seems very stright foward.

    Many of the same kinds of tweaks done on the 600 can be done on the 700.The stock opamps in the 700 are singles whereas the 600 has duals.The big hardware differences between the two are in the Digital input reciever s,digital filter and DAC chips.
