Polk Monitor 40 Series II

I just purchased a new pair (what I hope is new!) of discontinued Polk Monitor 40 Series II speaker system for a value @ $169 for the pair. I have a powered subwoofer and have been using Optimus Pro LX 5 speakers for the previous 18 years. I finally blew out the foam surrounds on the woofers. I will be looking into seeing if radio shack service centers can replace the woofers (doubt it @ 18 years old) Anyway, I really love the Lineaum Ribbon tweeters and, yes, the bass stinks but with a powered subwoofer they were great speakers for the last 18 years. Basically, I am hoping these new polks will not disappoint my ears!

Given where you've been and where you're going, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the Polks. Let us know how you like them!

BTW I wasn't aware the Monitor 40 Series II was discontinued. Newegg still sells them at $169 a pair w/ free shipping.

Thanks for the response and encouragement I should like the Polks. The Polk Website has a option to click on vintage / dicontinued models. The website states the Monitor 40 II is discontinued "but" may be found as close outs / used models. I searched for a while and did find the Newegg still had in stock, that is where I purchased the pair. I think I found another website that offered this model but stated to hurry as they were down to 5 pairs I believe. Now comes the quest for Speaker Stands that will raise them about 36 inches to avoide a furniture re-arrangement. Gott be secure and hold them well as I have 2 cats running around here. I also have a Denon DP 60 L turntable from 1980 so looking foward to adding the Polk's to the, otherwise, modest system.

I think you'll be suprised as well. I run a pair in a system in the master bedroom, which is on the larger size and they sound very good.....fills the space very well.

Refoam your LX-5, or have someone do it for you.

Wall mounts, maybe? Monoprice has some great deals on them.
