Hello I am extremely new to the Polk audio world. I had no idea what I was getting when I picked these up until I did a little research. I've been looking online to try and figure what I need to run these monsters because I don't think my little pioneer receiver can handle these bad boys. So any tips tricks or advice on hooking these up would be greatly appreciated. Also any help on individual speaker replacement would be great. I hooked them up to see if they even work (worked awesome) but I noticed in the right channel one of the 6.5 (on top of the four stack) pops extremely bad with high volume. Thanks for any help!

First what pioneer do you have? Does it have pre outs for an external amp to be added? Cause you are going to need it..

Second don't use that receiver at high volumes with these speakers you could be asking for more troubles then just a driver..

It's a pioneer vsx-521-k. It does have pre-outs but none labeled for an external amp. I'm more than willing to get the correct equipment just didn't know where to start.

Are you wanting to use these for just 2 channel or put them in a 5.1 surround setup?

Right now I want to use them for 2 channel because I don't have anything in comparison with them they will kill any sound from my other speakers. My original setup was all pioneer because they were cheap. But now with these I'd like to upgrade everything and and eventually run a 5.1 setup if I can find matching equipment.

Then shoot for a good 2 channel amp to get you rolling I would prefer to have one amp running the big boys you can always add another amp later for your center and surrounds. Or if you can find a 5 channel Sunfire that would fit the bill nicely..

There are many good amps on the used market Adcom-Rotel-B&K ect... This all depends on your budget and needs..

Oh ok so I'll need a receiver with preamp out puts. I'm making a grocery list. Wasn't prepared for these at all.

Those puppies require an amp that is common ground ya know !?! If you decide to sell or trade the 2.3TLs, and they're anywhere near the mid Atlantic region, please let me know.

Yea I had read about them needing a common ground amp. I've been doing as much research as I can on them I stepped into a new world when I found these. If I ever decide to get rid of them I will definitely post on here first but I don't see it happening anytime soon. I fell in love as soon as I saw them. Very excited to get the correct components so I can hear them correctly. I disconnected them after my first post. I want to wait before I hook them up again so I don't damage them.

If you really want to be cautious......pull all the 6.5" WM drivers and butter them up around the pole-pieces and magnets with epoxy/JB Weld. this will prevent the dreaded (and all too common) magnet shifting syndrome !

Forget the AVR completely. Get a tube pre amp and either a nice SS amp or a nice tube amp. You'll also want to do all the upgrades to your speakers.

What are the symptoms of magnet shifting syndrome? What does it sound like?

One clue would be a scratchy sound when the driver is pressed in evenly with your fingers. That would also be audible when playing. Another would be no sound from the driver because it is completely locked up.
