Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for a good deal on a single vintage Mullard 5ar4 NOS (or used but with lots of life left).

I'll be using this rectifier tube in the power supply of my Modwright tube Oppo 83. My current Mullard is slowly dying  so I want to be ready with the back up.

Thanks,
Ernie

Really, it's dying? These last forever. I might have one for you, let me check when I get home. They are used and I don't have a tester. I am on the fence about selling the amp I use these in so I won't have a need in the future. How do you know it's dying?

Just for information, I was using a Mullard 5AR4 in my Eico ST-70 integrated until a mod I did toasted one side of it (since fixed) I picked up an old Amperex Bugle Boy 5AR4 and I can't tell the difference. I would say it performs as an equal to the Mullard. I also used a new Shuguang 5AR4 and it was good but didn't seem as good at holding bias voltages.

Lately I've been hearing static and small pops and distortion for about the first 20 minutes after firing up the tube. It never used to do that before. After it is warmed up, it sounds great. I take this to mean the tube is dying. I bought it used in 2010 and listen to music several hours every day. I thought it would have lasted longer.

That's good to know about alternate tubes. thanks
